There’s been a bit of cinematic flair in Modest Mouse videos of late. Last time it was the unsettling backwards player for “Little Motel,” and just two weeks later we get a Phoebe Cates look-alike as all-American daughter, hanging at the family homestead with her evergreen lover: eating pancakes, pecking out “Chopsticks,” enraging jealous Daddy to the point of deforestation and, ultimately, arboricide. Like any good tale about human/plant love, it has a happy ending. And it also features the sappiest kiss in music video history.

We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank is out on Epic.

Why is that scene from Fast Times indelibly etched into every male’s brain that sees it?
