We told you Interpol frontman Paul Banks grew a questionable bad teenage mustache (Carlos D envy?) and recorded a solo album as Julian Plenti. The reportedly “cocky” and “sexy” collection, titled Julian Plenti Is… Skyscraper is out this August via Matador. And hey, the dark, stuttering, and texturally ambitious electro-rocking lead track “Fun That We Have” is sorta cocky and sexy. It’s not quite Big Black, no, but it definitely finds Banks on a ballsier tear than recent Interpol outings. Plenti good. Or at least better than expected.

i wish i didn’t, but i hear that that Five For Fighting guy in the first 45 seconds of this track.

  2. Ballsy is good. The last Interpol album was pretty dull.

    I will.

Count me as a huge Interpol fan that has serious concerns they burned through a bright (but short) fuse. Insert “Bright Lights” pun here.

But, man alive… this song is a tuneless, dreadful mess.

This song is a guaranteed disaster — just like a burrito before sex

I love everything Interpol has done. And ummm, yeah… this is not very good.

I’ll be honest, my love for Interpol could be either a blessing or a curse for this record, but based on the clip of ‘skyscraper’ (admittedly – not a particuarly strong basis for a preliminary judgement of an album) and this song, I’m tentatively feeling very positive.

  10. this song needs a female singer.
i don’t really know if i like it yet. it’s catchy, and the production does sound good, but it’s just so…weird. there’s like a 90s alt rock vibe running through, and an electro vibe running through, and a grunge vibe running through, and i dunno what to make of it.

I agree with chazooka. Solo Paul (or cheesy pseudonym Julian Plenti?) is not sounding too hot alone, just playing with sounds without much thought/consideration. Hopefully the album is better than this song.
