Kevin Drew checks in with a blog post from Soma studio in Chicago, where BSS are working on a proper followup to Broken Social Scene with Tortoise/Sea & Cake/Chicago-scene hero John McEntire. Also there’s gonna be a BSS book! Get caught up.

I had to read the header over several times to make sure it didn’t read John McEnroe. That would be an incredible album.

i used to love broken social scene. but after kevin drews failed attempt at a music video, and this whole book thing…i’m beginning to really dislike their idea of themselves. get over it…you’re a good band. nothing more.

  3. There *already is* a BSS.

  4. haha i did the same

agreed…one good record and one mediocre record does not equal the useless fawning over this act.

  6. Strongly disagreed.
Their influence & accomplishments over the last 7-8 years are varied & far-reaching.
This band’s music as well as their business model have birthed successful & sustainable full-time music careers for a network of artists whose output, by this point, covers some serious ground. Artists who – especially coming out of Canada at the time – might not otherwise have had those opportunities.
They changed the game in a lot of ways, in addition to being just a really good band on their own merits.

Only one good album? YFIP and the Self-titled are two great cover to cover albums IMO.
There may be useless fawning out there, but I’d be careful to discount the fact this collective has made a huge impact over one failed video attempt.

music is subjective, there is no universal good or bad in it. it just so happens that i love every album by bss, who the f are you to tell me my enjoyment of their music is flawed? lol seriously man
