Because he’s not busy enough with Dead Weather and hosting double weddings in his backyard, Music Connection reports the Raconteuring White Stripe plans to start work on a solo album by the end of the year. Start sleuthing at The Daily Swarm.

  1. Thank god. Finally no more needing to pretend “it’s about the band” when we all know it’s about Jack White.

  2. I’m guessing I could probably cut an album with him if I really wanted to at this point.

“Please Jack?” “Yeah, I got like, 38 other albums this year but I’ll give you the week of September 23-30th. Please show up promptly.”

  3. jack white is the lil wayne of rock

Jesus! Does this guy ever sleep?

Personally speaking, I don’t know what all the fuss is about that surrounds this guy. People claim he’s one of the top guitarists in music today, yet I’ve never heard anything to suggest that, even in the smallest of terms.

Eh, who know, though? Maybe this “solo” record (aren’t all of them, really?) will showcase this supposed “supernatural” talent that Keith Richards foisted upon White in a recent Rolling Stone interview? Keith said something along the lines of “…this guy knows the blues. He IS the blues…” or some such hyperbole. Again, I’ve yet to hear this “greatness”.

Again, who knows until this next “solo” record comes out? But at least this means that we won’t have to suffer through another ‘Jack polishing his bishop” narcissism that has become synonymous with the White Stripes. I honesty believe that White plays all the instruments in the studio and only has his wife/sister/cousin from the last “kiss your sister night at the local grange” come out on the road, because even Superman can’t play guitar and drums at the same time, at least with any effectivness. Come to think of it, even WITH his sister/cousin/wife, it STILL sounds like it’s a ‘one-man-band’ and a bad one at that. It’s not a joke when I say that my three year old niece can play the beats that Meg lays down.

Seriously. Anyone who is intellectually honest with themselves would have to agree that it sounds as if Meg never picked up a stick in her life and still sounds as if each album is her first experiance playing music. Give a chimp a couple of sticks and give him an hour or so and he’ll sound EXACTLY like Meg. I’ve been a drummer for 38 years. Trust me. I know what I’m talking about. As a matter of fact, because of my spinal tumor, I can’t drum anymore and I’ve started teaching myself to play the guitar and I sound equal in talent on it as Meg does on her kit.

This is his last chance, with me anyway. If his “solo” record sounds anything like all of his other stuff – The Broken White Soldier Dead Raconteurs Weather Stripes Boy – then I’m writing this self-absorbed f**kwit off for good.

The clock is ticking, Jackie Boy. Show me something on this next record. Show US something on this next record. Prove to us all that the high praise Richards lauded upon you is warranted.

    I’m not holding my breath…

“And the recording industry STILL can’t figure out why they’re going bankrupt…”

    • radio zero  |   Posted on Jun 9th, 2009 0

thirteen – i think you should concentrate your energies on more substantive enterprises…like trying to get laid…it might serve to lighten up your general outlook.

      btw –

keith richards opinion > thirteensburns opinion

      for that matter -

my 12 year old childs opinion > thirteenburns opinion

    • “If his “solo” record sounds anything like all of his other stuff – then I’m writing this self-absorbed f**kwit off for good.”

But, but, but…if you do that how will he survive? For God’s sake don’t ruin him by withdrawing your support! Jack NEEDS you Thirteen! We all need you!

    • Wow, Meg White is a mediocre drummer? I had no idea, seeing as I’ve been living under a rock for the past ten years! I look forward to reading your forthcoming exposés on the sky being blue and George W. Bush being short-bus special. I’m glad I left the dark underside of my rock just in time to be educated by a great man who claims to be just as talented as Meg herself.

    • boo  |   Posted on Jun 9th, 2009 0

Have you actually ever heard any of his music? Because I really don’t think you have.

    • Dude Neil Pert is like so awesome dude like woah. Trust me on this, I’ve been playing drums for 38 years.

    • JohnStamos  |   Posted on Jun 9th, 2009 0

playing drums in your basement for 38 years doesn’t mean s–t douchebag. while its true that most of the people that write on this blog are Jack White fans, your comments are un-warranted and idiotic.

Just because you don’t like a band, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t show some respect that playing music professionally isn’t easy and people who “can’t play the drums well” don’t get anywhere. Thus Meg white is a massively successful musician, you on the other hand?

If you’re so f–kin good why don’t you go join the white stripes? oh thats right, you’re no good.

    • JohnStamos  |   Posted on Jun 9th, 2009 0

It seems your spinal tumor has turned you into a bitter and twisted individual.

      good luck with that.

Your not holding your breath for the new Jack White record? hey, he’s not holding his breath for you either douchebag.

    • who is this guy??

    • steve b  |   Posted on Jun 12th, 2009 0

if you want proof of his guitar playing being the most genius since hendrix, you need to see him play live, he is awe inspiring at the least, providing a stadium fillingsound from just six strings and some wood like no other man alive.the fact it is just him (and meg i guess) onstage creating heart stopping sounds nonstop for an hour and a half is incredible. its not just the guitar either, the guy can play any instrument at the highest level.

    • jeffrey  |   Posted on Jul 6th, 2009 0

hey by the way why don’t you look up the rolling stones top 100 guitarists of all time he’s #17 and check youtube for some videos of him playing live.

    • dude thirteenburn, you have no idea what good music is. ill break down a few points on why you are an idiot….

1.jack jams and is already an all-time great rockstar.

2.ive never heard someone praise meg for being a sick drummer. but its the fact that her beats are so simple (like your daughter can play) yet you nor your daughter could ever make a platinum record.

3.they bring a whole new sound to the front of rock music, cant you respect that alone?

      4. if keith richards and jimmy page praise this guy, shouldnt you just shut the fuck up?

      5. shouldnt the fact that jack has turned two bands into worldwide success tell you he is the real deal??

-you say jack needs to do something more on this new album to show you something?
if anything jack has proven more than he needs to over and over in a variation of ways, changing music as we know it and providing us with songs for the ages.

      6. u suck… it makes sense for a real fan to get on here and defend a favorite musician but it makes no sense for a closed minded over-judgemental wana-be music critic to get on and write a 3 paragraph note on why jack white sucks, when you really, you lost the point of music long ago…

      whos with me?

  5. me  |   Posted on Jun 9th, 2009 0

No, that’s not a cool story. That guy reaks of douche!

  6. Every comment section under every article on this blog is an exercise in patience and reserve.

  8. I used to really like the white strips, Still kinda do, but Jack smells of an overinflated ego more and more.

  9. JW’s not the only guy in a full grip of bands, he’s just the most conspicuous (and one of the most talented). You can’t blame a guy for having more songs in his head than can feasibly be learned by other band members and committed to record. Now he’s got his studio up and running, he wants to play around a little…

  10. It’s gonna be interesting to see what’s cooking in his head. I think he’s a very talented musician who’s just exploding with creativity and has too many ideas for one band. I’m not sure if his guitar skills are that special, but he does come up with very catchy riffs.

  11. juleswells  |   Posted on Jun 11th, 2009 0

I admit that jack has talent, but so what…..I know plenty of talented dudes who are playing the clubs and rocking them. It does get annoying when he is everywhere. He sang with mick on loving cup in,”shine a light”, his vocals sucked. I have seen him live. Its a rant i have done a thousand times with my electric guitar. The thing is….just because someone with talent sets out to exploit themselves for money and fame doesn’t mean they are a rock god. These days rock stardom is lame and a stupid waste of a life if you ask me. Its all rehashed and technical If jack white is really the blues, then he would go to the crossroads and ask to be poor, black, and singing about hard times. What’s he singing about now? How much his Leather jacket cost? White boy blues is over…clapton killed it. Stop ripping off Elmore James and go into hiding. Just because someone finds self exploitation disgusting and soulless doesn’t mean those who choose to do should be held to ridicule. I have been in the VIP backstage….its a disgusting deluge of unoriginal dorks.

    • Shawn Bradley  |   Posted on Jun 14th, 2009 0

no u haven’t (been in the vip room) and rock stardom is still something that would be amazing that none of us will ever know. ur gay

Anyone want to join my religion: JackWhitology?

Best news ever, though i would prefer White Stripes.

My god. Thirteenburn … You could have saved your fingers the wear And all of us some time by just saying u have the smallest penis. Seriously. Oh and pleAse degrease your ears. Later hater.

  14. Some of you here love to argue. To each his/her own.

As far as JW solo project… hey the man loves making music as much as the next guy but he just does it on a different level. It’s kind of like comparing your average NBA player to someone like Lebron James or Koby Bryant. I’m sure Jack will blow our minds away one of these years.

  15. Rob S.  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2009 0

I think he should make a record without using a guitar on any of the songs. Because, really, why not? He’ll release three more albums in the six months following it anyway. Release a disco album, Jack. Please. Rolling Stone will still give you the cover and 4 stars regardless of what you do.

  16. Bootyfish  |   Posted on Jun 14th, 2009 0

    shut up

  17. It’s like saying the Taco Bell is going to attempt to produce a taco without the slow guy from high school that sweeps the floors.

  18. Knecht  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2009 0

no, i agree, meg white is truly awful… at least ringo was choosing to play simple beats, rather than playing them out of necessity. but jack white is a marvel to behold. i’ve seen him in concert a few times, and he has a stage presence that can’t even fit on the stage. Even with the raconteurs (which, IMHO, is a significantly better act than the white stripes), where he’s taking a back seat to benson half the time, his presence is just felt (without being forced upon you). is he self-absorbed? yeah, probably, but so would i if i were even half as successful as him. this guy’s amazing and easily one of the best guitarists of our generation, and to disregard him simply because he’s “too popular” or because he’s self-absorbed is simply a foolish mistake.

  19. Rob  |   Posted on Jul 6th, 2009 0

” I get frustrated when the press put Meg down for the simplicity of her playing. She has a really big, wide pocket to her playing that leaves spaces in the right places. She?s also found ways of filling the gap that?s left by not having a bass player. I have heard Jack play with other drummers, and he doesn?t sound like the White Stripes. She is more than one half of the sound of that band.”

    P- So what?s your self-confidence like? It?s good, right?

JW- Um, yeah. And I think maybe it gets misunderstood by people because of it. It?s so, the will to do whatever it is, that confidence is so strong it?s intimidating to some people around me to the point where they turn it to a negative thing, or turn it to an egotistical thing or a cocky thing. And there?s not much I can do about it. I couldn?t stop it if I wanted to. I just say I?m sorry a lot, or say I don?t know, it?s gotta happen. Sorry if it hurts anyone?s feelings, I try to be polite on every other angle of it. I said something to one of the guys in the Raconteurs last year when we were on tour. I said, ?People see me onstage and they like what?s happening and they like the energy that?s being put out, and I?m going for it, and it?s 100%, and it?s not written down on a piece of paper, you?re seeing it as it happens. But they don?t want to live with that guy. They don?t want to have breakfast with that guy. They just want that guy [up] there because it?s a neat package to observe.?

    Go Get em.

This guy says he has 38 years of experience playing drums.
So what albums has he produced?

There’s a right way and a wrong way to voice an opinion
but saying a 3 year old can play better is just “snarking.”

Let us hear some of your scary talent…

  22. This is Sooooooooooooooo Cooooooooooooooool Im lovin it

  23. Hmm, I know White Stripes, Raconteurs, and Dead Weather are all unique projects, but to some degree, I feel like every record he’s ever played on is a solo record that just reflects whatever mood and artistic inspiration he’s feeling at the time.

Nonetheless, I’m sure a solo album will be excellent, and I will certainly buy it.
