Damon Albarn stopped by BBC One’s Andrew Marr Show to debut a piece from his collaboration with theater director Rufus Norris. Together they’ve written an opera about John Dee, the 16th century alchemist and medical advisor to Queen Elizabeth I. Dr Dee premieres next month as part of the Manchester International Festival, where the Blur/Gorillaz frontman’s last opera Monkey: Journey To The West debuted in 2007. The song is called “Apple Carts” and you can watch an acoustic performance and download an MP3 below.
The schedule for Dr Dee can be found on mif.co.uk. Björk is performing Biophilia at the festival as well.
