You don’t often see bands releasing trailers for gigs, but Sufjan Stevens’ pair of upcoming Brooklyn shows are special. On August 2 and 3, Soof and “his Astral Masters of Song and Dance” head to the Prospect Park Bandshell to perform The Age Of Adz for the final time. RIYL DayGlo…

Tickets are on sale now.

And speaking of Adz, Sufjan’s label Asthmatic Kitty has just released a DVD of MAKE, Scott Ogdon and Malcolm Hearn’s documentary that inspired the album through its profile of disabled Louisiana outsider artist Royal Robertson (that’s his painting on the album cover). You can watch a 17-minute preview below (via IFC) and order the film here. Sufjan appears on the soundtrack.

  1. I hope i’m still alive in 30 years when The Age of Adz is appreciated like it should have been and hailed as a modern classic.

  2. ugh, its a hot mess

    • In fairness, that’s really what everyone says about modern classics when they come out. Honestly the Age of Adz has a lot going for it. I got to see him play in Austin just a few days after the album was released and it made me appreciate it a lot more. I think people will look back at Sufjan’s whole discography years from now and Age of Adz will be just as important as Michigan (not Illinoise though).

  3. I’m proud of how far Sufjan has come. He finally seems to be letting himself have a little fun.

  4. why don’t they just release the footage of said trailer into a live DVD after the tour? hopefully we wont have to wait five years for that…….The Age of Adz is such a good time live and such a party like atmosphere, maybe more than just a little influenced by Of Montreal, but nothing beats Impossible Soul

  5. No sorry Age of Adz still not that great. I’ve given it as many listens as possible – I’m one of those people who was profoundly influenced by Illinois and Seven Swans but this new Sufjan stuff is so underwhelming. Even his older b-sides and unreleased songs are great. dont know what happened. Still love Sufjan though

  6. If they have all this footage and at that professional a level it clearly shows that there is a live dvd and album at least in some stage. this is his most comprehensive live experience since bqe and i think someone like Sufjan who mixes art forms might appreciate a live show documentary project
