Welcome to our annual look at what we’ll spend our bandwith on in the year ahead. We did something like this last year, but the exercise was radically different this time; it’s amazing to look back and see how easy it was just to throw the list together off-the-cuff (just pick your favorite band and it seemed they had already announced an LP for ’07). Also, it’s pretty amazing to note how many of those LPs had already leaked before the new year. Are labels are getting a little smarter about plugging some of those leaks? Maybe, possibly, hopefully, hopefully not, etc.
Anyway, 2008′s shaping up to be a little different, and not just in terms of our collective OiNKlessness. As of now, the year doesn’t have nearly the same blockbuster appeal (no new Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse, Shins, Bloc Party, Spoon, LCD Soundsystem, Interpol, et al to get everyone frothy — oh, but did you hear there is a new Radiohead album in stores on January 1st!). Still, there’s plenty of promise there if you look for it. We’ve already seen some bright spots, and haven’t got around to blogging about some others (the new Beach House and Pattern Is Movement are on heavy rotation) … and we wanted to make next year nice and easy on you. So after lots of research about the year ahead, we’ve learned a few things: there’s a new Animal Collective EP out this April, Menomena’s promising another full-length for ’08, and when you’re making a list as big as the one after the jump, your best friends go by the names Cut and Paste.

And after all that, we’re sure we missed something. (Don’t say Chinese Democracy; we left that off the list out of respect to you, out of respect for us, and out of respect for the concept and integrity of the act of listmaking in general). We’re figuring you’ll tell us anyway, so we won’t even ask. Instead: let’s put this thread to some concerted, declarative use, and make it a call to “what we’re most psyched for in ’08.” And … go.

How is everyone going to illegally download all these albums without Oink? Is there something new and hot that all the kids are using? Or do you not care to discuss it on these hallowed pages?
Indie pop lovers should watch out for new records from Love Story In Blood Red and Devin Davis, very good stuff!

This is unconfirmed, but I’d bet that Robert Pollard has 163 full length albums of new material ready to be released in 2008.
Wow, I really can’t wait for Nas’s “Nigger” album in February. It’s so cutting edge and intelligent to name your album “Nigger.” Why Nas has never been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize is beyond me. In fact to protest him never winning it, I’m going to start calling Nas that word until he does.
Pela’s second full length album titled “Rise Ye Sunken Ships” should be out late spring/early summer.
School of Language- (David Brewis from Field Music) no title yet…sometime in ’08.
eminem has an album coming just dont know if its this year, fiddy and eminem said its true so did dre. the album will be called king mathers i believe i cant wait
also heard about a new Flyleaf and P.O.D Album…
cant wait to see what oasis has up its sleeve now that the mates have left their former label!
no stereophonics?
heres hoping kravitz takes his music back to the “let love rule” days the alblum im most pumped about is the oasis alblum.
cant wait to see what material the gallagher brothers were sitting on waiting for their old record deal to expire.rock on!
stereophonics dont have anything coming out in 08?anybody?
Holy Shit.
New Cons? I’m jacked! Greatest band in the history of Rock and Roll. Assuming it’ll be on vinyl too!!! Perfect! 08′s looking better already!
Thanks for the post S’Gum
what?! no nickelback?? i hope that everyone has just overlooked these guys, because i’d be bummed to find out that they don’t have a new album coming out.
MASSIVE ATTACK!
ummm… new SILVERSUN PICKUPS???
According to Richard X’s website, all of Annie’s album tracks are completed. This was way back in May and he promises a release early this year. We still haven’t received a date, but I imagine it will be put out soon (considering Annie wanted to have it done by the end of 2006).
I’ll take Heartbeat over dirty electro any day.
how is no one more excited about a new islands album?!?!?! They said they were going into the studio back in february ad we basically havent heard anything from them since! i hope it is awesome

This looks like it will be a good year (though perhaps not as good as 2007)! I’m looking forward to the new Colin Meloy solo release, and am just about peeing my pants in anticipation for the new Magnetic Fields album (only six days!!!) Scarlett Johannson singing Tom Waits, though? If that is in fact true, it’ll certainly be…something…
BLACK KEYS APRIL 1. PRODUCED BY DANGER MOUSE.
the black keys – attack & release – 4/1 !!!
SEBASTIEN SCHULLER expects to release his 2nd in September
Placebo is rumored to start working on a new album in the spring, with a possible late 2008 release. Dunno how likely it is that they’ll finish it before the year’s over, though.
The new Metallica! Can’t wait. I hear it’s coming out spring or early Summer so far. As to exact date I doubt if they know themselves.
late on the post…but the white hinterland record sounds like magic, to me. one of the most compelling things i think we’ll hear this year!
There’s supposed to be a new Bodies of Water album in the Spring too! It’s gonna rule!
Can’t wait to hear
A FONDNESS FOR HOMETOWN SCARS of the incredible KEITH CAPUTO!.

..::K E A N E::.. —> SEPTEMBER 08´
Radiohead is very nice — but Jesus — Bedlam In Goliath People ??? Catch the show — Omar is on another frequency — Mars Volta Is It for the next 45 years — they have set a standard the same way Led Zeppelin did — if the rest of these releases follow through — 2008 may end up looking like 1995 and 1968 — which is very very good — another timeless classic year –
you missed the TEAM ROBESPIERRE debut on Jan. 22nd.
KEANE’S THIRD ALBUM IS OUT SEPTEMBER 2008! It is still untitled.
