Count MTV among Vampire Weekend’s many (many) fans inside the not-exclusively-indie press. (Well, MTV along with SPIN and Rolling Stone and all of Britain.) So the kids do stand a chance after all, and it’s starting to show, if nowhere else then in video directorial talent; with the self-satirizing prep-rock in-jokes out of their system, this time VMPRWKND deliver something greater by drawing the esteemed Hammer & Tongs (aka Garth Jennings and producer Nick Goldsmith, the men who’ve directed videos for Blur, Supergrass, eels, and Pulp, along with the entire Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy film adaptation) to mastermind the chilly, watery, and jittery clip for “A Punk.” The aforementioned fans at MTV are the sole source of embed for now (sorry, world), but we’ll YouTube it when available. (UPDATE: It’s available.) Stay warm and dry, guys.
Vampire Weekend is out 1/29 on XL.

WTF??????
I liked them better the first time when they were called The Feelies. And Hammer & Tongs work has gotten progressively lamer since their badass video for “Imitation of Life.” Just sayin’.
Love it.
I’m dizzy just watching those drummer boys.
These guys are definitely one of my new favorite bands. Very distinct sound.
not if you’ve heard the feelies….
ummmm…. this video is way too 2007-2006 for my taste. all the creative types seem to be caught in the swamp. i will be glad when the “synced speed shift” and “omg we are so meta you can see people changing the sets!” gimmicks are over and done with.
Awesome, if a little too “Don’t Let’s Start”
im reminded of undone the sweater song video. ’94 where you at!
on that note, i could see vpw breaking out in the same fashion. ’08 where you at!
