The noise wrangler and sometime pop balladeer who brought Wilco and Sonic Youth to new creative peaks before decamping to Japan returns to song-based solo material with Visitors (Drag City, 9/8). Last year he promised “pretty much everyone is going to be disappointed” by it. Unlikely. (Via P4K.)

    There hasn’t been a stronger collection of “pop songs” since Insignificance. This is great news.

  2. This is going to be amazing; very excited. Also – why are Insignificance and Eureka so underappreciated?

  3. puhleeeeeeaze be like insignificance! it’s one of my hands-down favorites of all time and every o’rourke album since has been some soft of weirdness that i can’t get into.
