Last time Paul McCartney played the Ed Sullivan Theater it was really great for his career. And since last night’s encore was 45 years in the making, David Letterman gave him the whole show. Sir Paul reminisced with the Late Show host — Ed Sullivan was scary, “Paul Is Dead” was strange, working with Michael Jackson was great … until it was “just business” — but the memorable stuff happened outside on the marquee. There the ex-Beatle performed “Get Back” and (the Fireman’s) “Sing The Changes” for broadcast, and “Coming Up,” “Band On The Run,” “Let Me Roll It”/”Purple Haze,” “Helter Skelter,” and “Back In The USSR” for the gathering crowd.

Great respect for Mr. McCartney, but it drives me slightly nuts when old people are so obviously dying their hair. I had more gray hairs than Paul does now when I was 12 years old.

Well I look at it this way: He’s 67 years old. He’s a living legend. If he wants to dye his hair or go natural the choice is his. I absolutely LOVED the mini concert by the way and I am really hoping to see him in concert soon

  5. Still looking good, still vibrant. Not so sure about his relevancy but, hey, it’s McCartney. All is ever had to do in my book was Eleanor Rigby and that would have been enough.

That Fireman album was criminally overlooked. I recommend checking that album out. It is really great.

  10. ahhh, an oldie but a goodie in more ways than one! regarding Paul McCartney’s catalog sold to Michael Jackson, i wonder if paul now stands a chance at getting that back?

  11. Wow. So glad this Beatle is still doing it. I always think of his vocal on ‘Oh Darling’ from Abbey Road. Chills.
