Hey remember Black Kids? From CMJ 2007? Well they’re back, if only for a quick MTV2 performance, playing one of the tunes from their (no longer) freely downloadable EP that sent music journos into thesis mode. This performance — the shaky vocals, the rickety groove — may help remind you why, but it doesn’t change that they’re writing indie pop tunes well beyond their years, and their Jacksonville environs. (via P4K)

But yeah. They need to practice.

    sounds like “exploding boy”

  2. Why the Jacksonville dig? How do we know that the town isn’t brimming with indiepop? Does music have to come from NYC to be considered mature or solid enough to pass muster? I’ve heard fantastic bands from all over the country. People need to look beyond Brooklyn for once.

Reminds me of the time people got upset over the Lawrence, KS joke.

  6. Why would anyone dig at this band. I don’t get it. I guess if you are looking for Shins or Modest Mouse or some sort of giant production thing where everything is shrink wrapped and bland this sounds like crap, but for bouncy indie pop with nods C86, Black Kids are tops.

The song is really amazing. But two words: Vocal. Coaching.
Hang on to that drummer, he’s carrying you live at this point.

  11. I love the production of their single but the live vocals are not great. But the writing is Brilliant. If any one gets chance check out my band – female lead electro pop (who really can sing live)

    cheers
