don’t know who… but it’s a thousand times better than any of the shite on “light of day.”

  3. Dude, is this Minnie Driver?

  6. > Dude, is this Minnie Driver?

    Yep!

  7. At first I thought either Dido or Edie Brickell. Minnie Driver?

    no way.
    that is cat power.

  9. Bravo Minnie!!!

  10. Everytime I hear this song, it amazes me that Bruce originally wrote it for The Ramones to perform.

  11. This version sounds way better than the original.

  12. That actually isn’t bad. She does have a bit of Chan Marshall in her, doesn’t she? Except without Chan’s broodiness.

I always love how they play the original at weddings and everyone gets excited and dances without realizing how dour and sad the song really is. Give it a 4/4 beat and everyong just accepts it as a happy-go-lucky tune.

  13. So I guess that was Minnie doing her own singing in “Beautiful.” Check out that film…at least the scene where she does her “talent” at the final pageant. The singing is very good; the choreography is atrocious. I laughed the whole time.

  14. I was a little apprehensive about Minnie Driver working with Pete Yawn…er Pete Yorn on her album, but it seems she done good under the influence of his musicianship…and his wanger of course.

    Lovely!

  15. It’s edie brickell

This is toilet. She has managed to turn a wonderfully euphoric song into a melancholic dirge. Bruce has himself recorded slower versions of Hungry Heart, but he has still managed to keep the song a happy one. Sorry Minnie, but stick to failed relationships and a one movie career.

    hmmm. me likey.

Minnie, a girl of many talents it seems. Nothing wrong with taking an energetic song and giving it a tinge of melancholy. Remember what Tori Amos did with Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. She truly gave it a haunting edge. Like party streamers and floating balloons, when the night is late and the party has come to an end. No less beautiful with it’s dolorous strain.

  24. i hate it when you dont update your blog.

Sarah, your rhinos are great. I’m sad too that the site isn’t updated today. Scott must be very busy. Unlike me… I have plenty of time to read and comment today.

Read the lyrics again and then tell me its a happy song.

I recognize that the Boss is talented and all, but I don’t care for his music. Minnie did a great job singing on his track. She has a really relaxing but pure voice.
