On the heels of Adam Yauch’s unfortunate cancer diagnosis and subsequent concert cancellations, Lollapalooza has announced the Beasties’ Saturday slot will be filled by Karen, Nick, Brian, and Pajo. No word as yet on who’ll take the Beasties’ headlining set at All Points West.

  1. I was going to leave early on Saturday if they didn’t get a good replacement, but fuckin a, Tool, Yeah Yeah Yeahs? Couldn’t be an easier decision for me now

Well, I guess they could have done worse, right? Sure, the Beastie Boys probably put on a better show, but I dig Yeah Yeah Yeahs too. Get well soon, MCA.

YYY? Really? They couldn’t do any better? I’m not a huge YYY fan. I’d rather see Phoenix, Flaming Lips, MuteMath, Royksopp, or Zero 7. Any of those would be AMAZING!!!

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs would have been a good 5 PM band on Friday. This is not a headlining band. Not only does their music suck, but the don’t reach nearly a large enough audience. Absolutely egregious. Lollapalooza’s headliners this year are terrible in terms of appealing to the masses. With the exception of the Kings of Leon I see no reason to stay for a single one of them, and Kings of Leon aren’t even that impressive.

While I agree that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are not the same caliber (as far as promoting goes), I’m really excited. This years Lolla was looking like an over-the-hill showcase: Tool, Beasties, DEPECHE MODE, come on! That DM single is so terrible. The bands not having mass appeal is a problem for the promoters not me. The Beastie Boys have a special place in my childhood but I want to see some fresh bands tear it up, that’s up lifting. I don’t want to wallow in a by-gone era. Let’s just hope YYYs don’t disappoint.
