I love this song. They have been playing this for a couple months on indie 103.1 here in LA.

it’s fun if you imagine it’s being sung by the robert downey jr. character in weird science/back to school.

  7. “Man you can party like crazy party out there. Hip kids are into, like, smoking crack. New York is so cool.”

  8. it’s like the dude read my blog.

  9. Holy shit.

Its so sad that its true but it is. I mean, me and more than a few friends have had first dates where the date pulls out a crack pipe like its nothing, and Chloe really is everywhere and I have had photos with me, moby, and amanda lapore (who was like my co-godmother when I moved here at 19, but Sophia was more so).

This really depressed me Scott. I had to turn it off half-way because it was hitting too close to home.

  10. And here I thought X-1 was your pseudonym, Greg.

I’ve seen Chloe JUST ONCE but it was on a train to Connecticut so I guess it doesn’t count.

is there a way to actually download the song, or can I just listen to it on the web page?

  16. whatever  |   Posted on Aug 19th, 2004

how come i can’t hear the whole thing?? yesterday it stopped just at the 2nd new york is so cool in the beginning before any lyrics. and today it ends after interpol. is there another link?

  17. tylla  |   Posted on Aug 19th, 2004

yeah i had that problem too… but this is what i did:

clicked on the link, waited for it to load.

then i saved it on my computer (8KB), opened it in quicktime and then i could hear it…

i then saved the file as “.wav”, opened it in itunes and there i converted the “.wav” as an mp3….

    puh….

sweet. got it to work. thank you. don’t think it’s that funny, except for the part where he says matt jacobs instead of marc. i’d love an la answer song.

  19. I doubt this fellow’s credibility. I mean, “La” Festival? Everyone knows there’s no “La” in the name.

    I am so cool.

  20. you’re concerned about his credibility? isn’t this song about people who worry about other peoples credability.

cred check: i was with brian the night they recorded this song about a year ago and half ago. maybe longer. to put the song in perspective it was about the time when it seemed like every new band you heard about was from new york and a lot of our friends were moving there. it still cracks me up

  21. Joey  |   Posted on Aug 20th, 2004

“you’re concerned about his credibility? isn’t this song about people who worry about other peoples credability.”

Dude, a joke is never funny when you explain it.

    A: nothing.

  23. Snooziqueue  |   Posted on Aug 20th, 2004

Brian also fronts the LA band Pink Grenade. Um, I’m the bassist. I will take any opportunity to shamelessly promote us.

Thank you so much for offering to send me a copy but my best friend did pass away 2 days ago, I just got back from his funeral tonight. I wish I could have read your post earlier, I know he would have enjoyed hearing this song again. Your kindness is very much appreciated. I would still love to have a copy to remember his joy of hearing this song. Not sure if this is proper, but right now I really don’t care. My e-mail is kmullins3@yahoo.com. 55. New York is So COol.

The Song was recorded by Brian O’Keefe and I believe Bryce from Die Princess Die under the name X-1.
Brian lives in SEattle, and Bryce lives in L.A. I’ve met Brian before, he’s a cool guy. Was in a band called Pink Martini – Octavius

Nice to see people still dig this little song we made in the afternoon of Friday the 13th of June 2003 stoned and drunk and unemployed! We were sitting around and I was reading these articles about all the hyped bands from NYC at the time and suggested we make a song on the spot. Ryan Mcbride recorded and did beats and Chris Phillips played keyboard and effects whilst I talked smack over the tune. It was recorded live in one take and most of it I don’t even remember freestyling. The songs references are from a month long visit/bender I took to NYC that previous fall 2002. Its funny cause both of us had our own music projects and we kind of forgot about the song for a good year until 103.1 in Los Angeles started playin it a good ten times a day. Arguments came up and egos clashed about how to handle what was never really a real project in the sense that the three of us had so called ‘real bands’ at the time. Thus it was never released but has grown into its own on this here inner web. Friends have told me they have heard it all over the world which is pretty funny. I hope people get some of the seriousness of the song like the calling out of movie star djs and other corny elements of celeb media garbage. Some peoples reactions have been so ridiculous but I guess they dont get that I am clowning them so what can you do? Any way I live in Seattle and work at an architect firm and quit music for a bit but we shall see what the future holds. Cheers to everyone who is about ruffling the feathers of the peacocks of life – B
p.s. I am still waiting for some kid out there to make a youtube video or a remix, please feel free to!

  57. Hey Brian…
I got the name of your other band wrong. It was Pink Grenade.
Hopefully, I’ll see you in Seattle one day with “k”

It s only funny if you re making fun of yourself and corny people like you, who come to new york looking to become famous, which i m assuming it is.
The truth is this was such a hit in LA because those oblivious anuses don t understand that new york is “soo cool” because of them (and really all westerners) coming to new york so they can get some asinine job at a magazine, fashion house, or blog, which will never pay their rent (their parents will).
New York does and always will have a scene that is fun and interesting, and it will always be coming from natives and accepted friends, never the vice, williamsburg/bushwick, gawker crowd. You are on the outside, that is why you think it s lame.
