Canuck dream pop outfit Young Galaxy has a way with shoegazey, lurid indie rock, and its latest animated video is a blissfully bizarre affair involving a skeleton, space, and Grimace from the McDonald’s ads. Well, not really. But you’ll see what I mean.
Shapeshifting is out now on Paper Bag Records. “Peripheral Visions” is the second video in the series, so check out the prior video “We Have Everything” as well.

Uh… What?
I have nothing against this band, but music that is not hellbent on using guitars to create a massive wall of disorienting sound is not shoegaze. Why is is word thrown around so much? It is a very specific genre. I remember years ago when I would read M83 reviews and sure enough, there would be that word, “shoegaze,” even though there was rarely a guitar anywhere in the mix.
