On Saturday night, Coldplay trotted out R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts” and I’m guessing you can imagine how people reacted to the cover (SPOILER ALERT: They enjoyed the shit out of it).

Not my favourite REM song but it beats the hell out of any Coldplay song. Some tween audience members probably didn’t even know who REM was and thought it was a tribute song written by Coldplay. Goddamn tweens
Tweens? Ever been to a Coldplay show?
I agreen with ComehomeNow…. coldplay’s fans aren’t generally tweens…..I’m sure everyone and their mother have heard “Everybody Hurts,” it’s a classic. I think it’s an excellent cover, not my favorite song either but I think they did a great job with it, definitely something they would have sung in another age.
What hurts more is the videography here. For the love of dancing donkeys, could people please pick a vantage point (not zoomed up to the nose hairs), hold the camera steady, and resist the temptation to scan back and forth while zoomed. We are getting dizzy here!
I always thought Coldplay kinda rewrote this song with “Fix You.” There are so many similarities between the two, both musically and lyrically.
