Well, this is some good news. Since earning a BTW assignation and killing at our SXSW party later that year, we’ve had to rely on the occasional epic remix to get a fix of anything resembling new Fuck Buttons. Until now, when the dance-minded noise sculptors drop the first sample from their anticipated Tarot Sport LP. Lead single “Surf Solar,” which unsurprisingly clocks in at over ten minutes on the album, comes to us here pared down in a sexy, bite-sized 3:42, melding a four-to-the-floor pulse to stuttering samples smeared with an intense, industrial and somewhat evil sonic sheen. Please listen:

saw them open for mogwai in edinburgh last fall, absolutely brilliant, cannot wait for this new record, this is such a tease…
yeee-hawww
saw them open for caribou and they blew my mind. Street Horrrsing was one of my fav’s that year. Can’t wait for this record.
great track, can’t wait to hear the 10 minute album version!
There’s kind of a faint chorus/chanty thing going on too.
Well, at least this is a tiny bit exciting to hear. But maybe that’s just because it’s good compared to that stinking pile of garbage that was Street Horssing. OK, maybe it wasn’t that bad, but damn, it was pretty hard to listen to. Other than that one good song on it.
psh…pitchfork posted this like, days ago…i’ve already gone through the stages of not liking it as much as their old stuff, downloading it illegally anyway, letting it grow on me, and then hating it again because it’s too popular. and then i put it on my year end list…
You just summed up the average Pitchfork reader train of thought better than anyone, sir.
this is better than most of the previous crap i’ve heard from them…. also sounds a bit Dan Deaconish.
I think it’s quite good. Their debut was my second favourite album from last year. I would love to hear the 10 minute version.
You know, it sounds more like a remix of a Fuck Buttons song than an actual Fuck Buttons song.
It sounds more like a Fuck Buttons cover band remixed by Dan Deacon ghost-mixing as the Fuck Buttons on a Fuck Buttons tribute album curated by a post-Fuck Buttons James Murphy.
bitchin’.
