Folks are generally more interested in Wavves’ broken bones and breakdowns than the guy’s actual music. Which is a bit of a drag. It’s not for a lack of sounds: Beyond Wavves and Wavvves and various singles, Nathan Williams posted the “Mickey Mouse” demo in July and now we have his best song in some time, “Cool Jumper.” When he upped this 6-minute blowout over at his blog, he tagged it with “BART SIMPSON, GARFIELD, NATHAN WILLIAMS, ROBERT WOLFE, STUSSY, WEED, ZACH HILL.” It’s likely Hill handling the drums and he included a drawing of a clearly stoned Garfield. On top of the fat cat’s bloodshot eyes, his wristwatch reads 4:20 and he’s sporting a Bart Simpson tattoo. And maybe Williams was wearing a Stussy jumper when he wrote the thing. Ponder the rest of the tags while you take a listen.

Actually we aren’t interested in the music or the shenanigans.

What? Google Chrome users can’t download the mp3?
What is to “crawl the site”, and why does it “ruin it for everyone else”?

  8. I like the last album, but it was just far enough outside of my comfort zone that I don’t know if I’ll like his subsequent stuff. So far, after the first two new tracks, I’m finding I still like it. He was fine at Pitchfork, except the vocal mix was far too weak. I’m seeing him next month in a more traditional venue, so it will be interesting to see how they sound indoors.

  9. Whatever, people. I’m digging this track and I love the shitty punk hair.

  10. I’ve been fond of Wavves for quite some time now. I really like their Wavvves album and “For the Dregs” is one of my favourite songs of 2009. And now they’re releasing more great material. This is a big up in sound quality. I defiantly get a feeling of No Age here. And their “Mickey Mouse” song is great also.

Nice energy, lousy architecture…won’t be knocking out “Girl on a Wing” to make room for this anytime soon…

  12. holy shit!!!! i saw zach hill open for deerhoof in sf a week or two ago and zach’s douchey guitarist played that riff the whole set!

That “douche” plays guitar on cool jumper. That is why he and Zach were playing it. True story. What made him such a douche?

  16. sydney   |   Posted on Aug 13th, 2009

maybe that douchey guitar player is actually Nick Reinhart who is an amazing guitar player in two great bands tera melos and in bygones his duo with zach hill. And why is it douchey that he was playing the riff HE WROTE and is also the very guitar riff played BY him on that wavves track.

  17. Was super stoked for Wavves and Ganglians’ Toronto show, until I find out it wasn’t all ages. Fuck you Nathan Williams. Your hair sucks and Hula Hoop is bad.
