  1. I’ve looked for other contenders but I just can’t go past Lou Reed’s ‘Transformer’… produced by David Bowie who magically distills the storytelling prowess of the ‘King of New York’ over two gorgeous sides of precious vinyl.

I just thank God that Bowie also had the foresight to bring along his trusty partner in crime, ‘Spider’ Mick Ronson who scored the lush heavenly strings on “Perfect Day” (a bona-fide classic).

As if that embarrassment of riches weren’t enough, this album also boasts “Satellite of Love”, one of THE most exciting, triumphant moments of pop music… Make yourself a cuppa and take the time to really listen to the climactic falsettos of a virtual Bowie choir and you’ll hear and FEEL what I’m talking about. It’s ‘hairs on the back of you neck’ material.

‘Reed the consumate observer’ meets ‘Bowie the Alchemist’ and ‘the magic’ is loving portalled via the genius of the double-tracked Herbie Flowers bass line of ‘Walk on the Wildside’…”and the coloured girls go…. “Doo do doo do doo do do doo …”

Need I really say more? Transformer is an INCREDIBLE album. Take the time, give it the time and be well rewarded.

I rest my case. (In fact, I’m off to listen to it now!)
