This countrified cover of Death Cab For Cutie’s “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” shows up on Amy Millan’s second solo album Masters Of The Burial. The Broken Social Scene/Stars singer’s been performing it live for years, but this is the first studio version of the somber Plans song. Her new collection also includes covers of songs by two very Canadian artists — Sarah (no relation to Nick) Harmer’s old band Weeping Tile and folk/country singer Jenny Whiteley — along with guest spots form Stars bandmate Evan Cranley, Leslie Feist, and the Stills’ Liam O’Neil, among others. Here, we get the lady’s side of the post-death pact.

Masters Of The Burial is out 9/8 via Arts&Crafts.

Great cover. But it’s on the album? Really? That’s a bit of a cop out. No room for covers, I say

  5. As a big fan of both Death Cab and Stars, I really expected/wanted to love this, but I didn’t. The original version works because of it’s simplicity, this version has far too much going on. This kind of turned me off of the album.

if you like this you should check out the bluegrass tribute album to Modest Mouse that’s been floating around for awhile. I’m not kidding.
