Last week you got a listen to “Cool Jumper,” which served as the debut of Nathan Williams’ collaboration with Zach Hill as well as his new, seemingly unpopular haircut. In a studio clip posted by Terror Eyes then reposted by Williams, we again see the new Hill-backed Wavves go for it, this time live and in living color on “Hula Hoop.” As with “Cool Jumper,” its clear Hill’s drumming brings something special to Williams’ California-sun noise-pop. If you stick around until the end, you’ll also hear the question: “Do you think my hair looks like Charlie Sheen from Major League?”
(Via Terror Eyes)
Regarding the track, Williams notes:
This is a rough live mix from how the song will be when it’s finished but once it’s done the track WILL be on the next record. Lyrically/Sonically the song will be pretty different but jam on it.
And, as usual, the Ghost Ramp tags add to the narrative: “Andy Morin, Bad Haircuts, Broken Bones, Church, Exhaustion, Food Poisoning, God, Pills, Pizza, Satan, Snacks, Sun Burns, Terror Eyes, Zach Hill.”

Long live those who rip off No Age and Liars! Yeah!!!!!
I love Wavves, don’t get me wrong, but did you actually listen to this or are you just spouting off trite criticisms? This sounds nothing like Liars.
Oh no, I was just spouting off trite criticism, and I had not listened to the song. I was making my comment based on songs I had heard off of his full length album. This song (now that I have listened to it) is a blatant Nirvana ripoff. I don’t think anyone could argue with that.
zach hill making me believe in wavves
Dude this is such a ripoff of Fantastic Magic and Hella.
all of this kids songs sound exactly the same. sorry, it’s true. one dimensional, one trick pony. the same ‘ol waves keep crashing into my inbox
This guys Electronic Sideproject Pictureplane is Awesome!!!
You know…… I like this….
Williams should just keep Zach Hill around to keep himself in check. But this is actually pretty blistering and fun, definitely an improvement. The best we can hope for is that he gets better musically with age (though I think it’s doubtful he’ll mature).
wow, nathan needs braces.
This sounds like Beach Goth.
Sounds like they’re toning down the noise, which is great because (in spite of it being trendy to piss on Nathan) they’re interesting enough to not have to rely on something so gimmicky. I was actually able to hear Cool Jumper through my shitty car speakers unlike their entire first album, which came out as a wall of static. Looking forward to the new stuff.
It’s too bad the chorus is almost exactly like “beach demon”
Holy hell, Zach makes this shit sooooo much better.
its crazy how much attention this kid gets for writing the same song that 100 other kids already wrote…but oh well….
He will be forgotten after the hype fades out in a couple of years, don’t worry.
i like “Hula Hoop” .
Does anybody else hear a bass that they aren’t showing?
Basically, and besides his solo works plus Hella, Zach Hill is “almost always” a true secret weapon for musicians (think here: Marnie Stern, Rob Crow, Omar Rodriguez, Prefuse 73, Chino Moreno, Jeordie White…..).
Now Wavves.
Good song.
