One of the most inspired SXSW sets occurred at high noon on Saturday at our party with PASTE. The slow-build brilliance of Bristol duo Fuck Buttons’ psychedelic, sometimes straight-up noise-pop Prurient-isms is what made us label Andrew Hung and Benjamin John Power a Band To Watch in January. it sounded/looked pretty intriguing – their ‘set cues’ i have no idea what that was about but it kept me captivated..
i could understand if you were looking for pop songs but.. the synths.

you guys are all fucking nuts. obviously not for people without patience, but given the laptop/keyboard nature of it all, i’m actually impressed by their presence/dynamics. but also i’m glad you guys won’t be at the shows, more room for me to sprawl.

So….wow….um…..there were several sections of time where neither guy was actually touching anything making music. They seem pretty superfluous to their own show. I have rarely been so bored. I can’t believe I watched all three. I was still expecting something to happen when I started the third. That’ll teach me.

There were opening for some band I saw a few months back, maybe the fiery furnaces? I skipped their show, then read all the hype (mostly on stereogum) and wondered what I missed. Listening to these songs, well, there just bad. I don’t know if boring is a good enough word. Musically incompetent? Painfully pretentious?
But by all means, have fun “sprawling” at their shows.

But at the same time, I didn’t feel compelled to stop the video, or even look away.
I’m not sure what it is about the music, but I think it’s great.
What’s all the hype about? These guys blow… The are just jerking off to a bunch of prerecorded loops.
This band is generating a lot of talk, to say the least. Even if most of you are saying it’s complete BS. I like their music a lot. Usually not into much noisy-ness, but the synth layers and the chords that they are playing usually build very nicely.

these guys are seriously boring as hell. hipsters seem to love em though. why? because no one really likes the fuck buttons and it’s cool to like a band that is obviously terrible and that nobody likes. i don’t see how anyone can take this band seriously.
I love it, its so far from everything else saturating the indie scene is saturated with these days. Its unique and while not as climactic as so may like, it keeps me intrigued the entire time. I can not wait to see the with Caribou in Tallahassee

That was the most pretentious thing I’ve ever seen. Why did I just watch two art school dropouts hover over their keyboards and scream for 5 minutes? The fact this video was posted *and* people are defending these talentless, tight pant wearing douchenozzles makes me sick. You should all be ashamed of yourselves, seriously.
Go see Holy Fuck instead if you can. Their show is awesome. To be fair Fuck Buttons’ “Bright Tomorrow” is a great track.
So this is a bad performance of theirs. All bands have them. There is much more to Fuck Buttons than this video may display, and I can definitely sympathise with the negative comments. I suggest either going back to nu-metal OR listening to them on record. Then, when you realise how silly you’ve been, you might just go and see them live.
Have to be in the mood… ? Hmmmm…. I am never, never in the mood for this. It makes me feel like I’m a really bad rave in the 90′s. Tragically, I say that coming from experience. Forget about any performance. I don’t get it. And the name is so, so ugh, blech, embarrassingly douchey. I just can’t take it seriously. Sorry guys.
