The jammy, eight-minute “I Will Possess Your Heart” was the first step along Narrow Stairs; graphic designers, we have the second. We’ve obscured the cover art via rectangular collage for that thumbnail to heighten the suspense, but the proper and pristine cover obviously features more surprising and discrete images.

Just kidding that was totally a fair and accurate representation of how it looks.

Narrow Stairs is out 5/13 on Atlantic.

    I like it.

This band seriously might be the gheyest band in the history of indie-rock music. Their new song just songs like another swollen vagina track. Their cranberry juice indie stuff drives me nuts.

  3. 4 minutes without vocals. that’s what i call a single. jimmy page would be proud of that. i can’t wait to go to a show and see a lot of disappointed 15 year old girls.

  4. This is one of the those things where if I slowly step away from my computer it will look increasingly like Abe Lincoln?

  5. Death Cab are trying to be fArtsy again with minimalistic album design. At least it looks better than Plans and probably will sound better, which is a good thing (since i consider plans to be a really shitty album)

  6. Andrew  |   Posted on Mar 25th, 2008 0

Too bad it’s not actually “minimalist” cover art by any means or you’d be right.

you guys are probably judging them on their last two albums. try to work backwards on their 4+ albums and then tell me how much they’ve changed. narrow stairs is gonna be really different.

  11. Yeah, that’s a pretty cool cover. I like it. I’ll admit not everything on Plans was great, but I’m still interested in hearing this.

  12. mmmhm….interesting? im actually very excited for the next album.Plans left me a bit….disappointed.

  13. that album cover sucks. come on

  14. The album art looks like a flag…an American flag. I think this album is going to be a sweet allusion to the population being misguided by politicians backed up by a willing media that won’t really ask questions…or maybe it’s about love and hearts and relavent things.

  17. i like it a lot. i think DCFC is trying to run away from Plans and go in an entirely new direction and i wish them well. although i was still quite satisfied with Plans, though it isn’t there best work.

HEYYYY, it sorta looks like there’s a perfume ad being obscured by those “creatively” arranged reactangles… you know, like one of those ads where everyone’s pretty, tan and bland and there’s a golden retriever and a boat in the background.

  19. I like it. I guess. I just can’t help but get the feeling that I’ve made this in Paint before.

I like the font. It reminds me of the album covers of their older albums.

Yeah, it lacks originality. Everyone here seems to like it, because popular culture tells them to. TOTB.

Apparently Jackson Pollock is alive and painting album covers these days.

    • sara  |   Posted on May 12th, 2008 0

i’m sorry adam, but you have no idea what you’re talking about. do you really think this looks like jackson pollock or were you just naming the first abstract artist that came to your head? because if you had any knowledge of art, i should hope you could come up with a better comparison than that. besides the fact that they’re both “abstract”, this cover and pollock’s work couldn’t be more different in terms of expression, color etc. before you insult another piece of art or artist, i suggest you take into account that you are not an artist and will probably just sound dumb to anyone around you who has a clue.

      have a nice day.

This would’ve been avant-garde in ’60s but in today’s world it just looks like a badly pixelated HDTV image.

  29. Evan  |   Posted on Mar 28th, 2008 0

It actually looks like it could be a Fugazi album cover to me for some reason.

  30. kaylee  |   Posted on Mar 30th, 2008 0

I like the right half of the cover art.
the left is too blue.. and more boring

    I Loved the new song..

I’m Excited! i Finally get to see them June 3rd in Chi-town!

  32. This reminds me of the band’s nostalgic side. I guess symbolically it takes me back to the basic theme of The Photo Album, and to me it represents snippets of what they’ve been through or places they’ve traveled. That’s just my interpretation :)

  33. The album is another great adition to their already sterling catalogue of melodic indie-rock. I personally discovered the band through an O.C. episode i stumbled upon… and thank whoevers upstairs i did.

The Ice Is Getting Thinner… is for me, a phenominal song! I can personally relate to the lyrics as a current relationship of mine, coincidently, was taking the exact turns the song expresses.

Thank you Death Cab for another exceptional collection of eagerly anticipated music.

Death Cab For Cutie is wonderful. So some of the tracks on Plans weren’t that great, but comeeeee on! This album cover is nice, and different. Think about it, it doesn’t have someone posing or the band looking all lame and shiz. It’s cool. And I’m sure the music which the album contains is even cooler :)

  35. Kirby  |   Posted on Oct 31st, 2008 0

you obviously have no appreciation for art fred (lemme guess – simple plan fan? or are you one of them ‘hardcore’ folk) and when you say ‘gheyest’ are you referring to your closet orientation because your use of the word vagina cleary indicates ur lack of contact with one.
its insensitive fuckeads like you that never get laid. grow up and get buttfucked already.

  36. tim kelly  |   Posted on Nov 29th, 2008 0

you are all idiots who think death cab isn’t good. they are by far the best band that we have now and they aren’t trying to be fArtsy with the album cover dumbass
