Since getting started in 2002, the Danish quintet Slaraffenland have impressively honed their pop. You heard a sample of it via the forthcoming We’re on Your Side‘s layered lead track “Meet And Greet.” They take it to an even subtler place on “Open Your Eyes.” Lyrically you’re told to open your peepers like “like a deer caught in the glare of headlights,” but it’s hard imagining them ever getting so wide amid the kind-of-blue instrumentation. The song has a sleepy lag to it, a nighttime junkyard half-step that grows into the final pins-and-needles group exeunt without breaking the opening ambiance. That said, repeat listens work like caffeine.

We’re On Your Side is out 9/15 via Hometapes.

This is a truly fantastic band. I’ve had the opportunity to see them play several time, most notably on the Danish Dynamite tour with Efterklang! The new song is killer!

  2. This band can do no wrong, it seems. Way more interesting and dynamic than their similar peers (*cough* Animal Collective *cough*).

This band is super-rad and probably one of the best live bands in the world right now.

  4. I’d like to add that the Meet and Greet b-side song called My Bad Ways is great! I think I like it more than the single… okay, okay, I like them both. :)

Btw, they are playing at Union Pool (Brooklyn) on Sept 22nd.
