Just in time for the 20th Anniversary of Bleach, aka one more milestone to make Nirvana fans feel long in the tooth, the Guitar Hero series introduces the Be Kurt Cobain feature, sure to bring the joys of “Territorial Pissings” and “Rape Me” to a new generation of kids too young understand the full thrust of what they’re playing along to. It’s the circle of life. (Actually the Nirvana songs featured will be “Lithium” and “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” along with other new additions including Vampire Weekend’s “A-Punk,” Elliott Smith’s “L.A.,” Weezer’s “Why Bother,” Bowie’s “Fame,” and like 80 more.) its a good thing they put in kurt cobain and not some other musician who’s hatred of achieving celebrity status lead to an untimely suicide, cause that would’ve been in poor taste…

I guess this is the final image of nirvana as pop culture will remember them (as they were set up from the MTV unplugged). Based on kurt’s hair and green cardigan I guess that’s what they went with. I think he’s got the Daniel Johnston ‘hi how are you?’ shirt on too. This whole thing is pretty macabre.

Does Matt Belamy’s guitar shoot lasers? If not then it’s not accurate.
It wasn’t right to put Jimi Hendrix in the last one and it isn’t right to put Kurt Cobain in this one.
Obviously, the publisher couldn’t get the rights to animate the likenesses of Krist, Dave or Pat. And, obviously, the publisher didn’t care as everything here, except for Dave (who they were scared shitless of having look even a little like himself ’cause he’s got lots of money), screams “think Kurt” — Krist is wearing the shirts Kurt wore in the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” video, and Pat’s hair is too long, more Kurt than Pat-like.
“Smells Like Teen Spirit” looks approximately 15 times harder to play on Guitar Hero than an actual guitar.

guitar hero and rock band are just extensions of the music industry we’ve come to love in the 90s. rock isn’t commercially viable anymore unless it’s in a plastic guitar.
but c’mon, people are still playing guitar hero enough for it to get to the 5th installment? i mean, after the fourth play on the first guitar hero i was saying to myself, “shouldn’t i just play real guitar?” i then promptly sold my guitar hero game and controller to a kid for $70.

Every time Kurt is immortalized in increasingly distasteful ways, I just put on ‘In Utero’ and remember he told them all to f off.

I know Matt Bellamy’s not the best looking guy on earth, but come on, he’s not THAT ugly. And as for Kurt Cobain, all I have to say is… wow. I normally wouldn’t make a big deal about someone being featured in GH, but this just screams wrong. Kurt would HATE the idea of being commercialized like this. Nirvana songs being featured in GH is one thing, but Kurt Cobain being a playable video game character? Oh Courtney…
