Scott,
Don’t feel too ashamed about “Sailin’”. In the spirit of full disclosure, I have Christopher Cross’ “Ride Like the Wind”, featuring the dulcet tones of Mr. Michael McDonald, on my iPod.
That was a great interview. Your blog is one of my favorites. It’s gotten to the point where I can just yell out over my desk area “hey – check stereogum!!” and everyone is on the case in seeing what brit brit (I personally like calling her “britty”) is doing, or what awesome songs are being featured. You make me laugh. So anyway – I enjoyed reading the interview. And I can’t wait for Britty to finally contact you already. I mean seriously you deserve a phone call or something. right?
On the subway, when I see the other white-wired zombies staring into space, I wish thought bubbles would appear over all our heads, revealing what everyone?s listening to. I think we?d all be surprised.
Dude…I totally busted out Sailing & “If-you-get-caught-between-the-moon-in-New-York-City” better known as the theme to the movie Arthur while DJ-ing a party in Williamsburg and all of the partygoers started singing along.
Sorry, but liking C.Cross makes you tragically hip…he’s obvs an underground fave!
Donald Fagen solo stuff, esp. Nightfly = so goddamn good. “I.G.y.” is one of those songs that you hear as a kid on classic rock radio, and then hear like 20 years later and wonder why it’s so freakishly compelling.
Wow, I wish my shameful items on my iPod were so cool. I have most of those bands on my pod and have never considered them shameful (could be a midwest thing.) My ‘guilty pleasures’ include multiple PM Dawn albums, the Singers and Songwriters collection (oh yes, from the TV) in its entirety, and the worst of all… a goo goo dolls song.
I cant believe I just admitted all that.
And really, you are embarrassed by Wild Mood Swings? Damn, the 13th is one of my all time favs. You really need to lower your standards.
big up on the Ghostbusters II positive slime reference. bigger ups on not mentioning the statue of liberty’s parade, from same film. for those who don’t know the genius of “on our own” by bobby brown from that flick, a link might be in order. “too hot to handle, too cold to hold…”
Hey how cool is that? And it finally answered a question that I’ve asked here a couple times but you either chose to ignore it or just didn’t see it (I’m going to assume it’s the latter–you seem like such a nice boy). I’ve been wondering how you really feel about the Britster, because it’s hard to tell sometimes.
I wanna answer everyone’s questions… in random order:
Thanks for the kind words! I have the best readers and that’s why Gothamist wanted to do the interview. Who knew there were so many Christopher Cross fans? Do you realize “Ride Like The Wind” was Spade’s theme in DICKIE ROBERTS? C.Cross is on the comeback! Um, what else … yes Eliot took the picture, I constantly get ridiculed by coworkers for liking the Cure’s “Wild Mood Swings” so that’s why it’s on my embarrassing list. I think it’s a great album, just not the coolest. New post coming soon … I met Flavor Flav today.
songs from wet hot american summer? then maybe you can help me. what is that song playing when Coop is learning “the new way”? you know, “taking me higher and higher!” i totally need to get that one.
The repressed yearnings for Christopher Cross reveal that people will getdown and nostalgic for the absolute ripest crap. Personally, I don’t DO CC, but I DO have a sweet spot for such muck as Gilbert O’Sullivan (Alone Again Naturally), Terry Jacks (Seasons in the Sun), Gordon Lightfoot (Sundown, If You Could Read My Mind, Edmund Fitzgerald), and Jim Croce (Time in a Bottle.) Other guilty pleasures would include Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s “Relax”, Duran Duran’s “Girls on Film”, and Robert Palmer’s “Simply Irresistible.”
Awesome interview Scott. While I get i tired of your obsession with Britney, you have turned me on to some great music and you seem like one hell of a nice guy.

Oh yeah – and Dolphin Fitness is the best deal on 14th.
When’s the movie?
I’m glad you agreed to do an interview, Scott, after all the trouble we’ve caused. You’re a good man.
On the subway, when I see the other white-wired zombies staring into space, I wish thought bubbles would appear over all our heads, revealing what everyone?s listening to. I think we?d all be surprised.
great idea!
Christopher Cross’ “Sailing”? Oh yes, It CAN get more embarrassing than that. I have the NSYNC cover of it on my ipod.

good interview, yo … especially considering Gothamist outed you earlier this year! stay buzztastic, bro.
Wonderful interview. Interesting to read some of your personal insights and finally see a face behind the infamous name!
YAY SCOTT!

Funny and wonderful interview. Did Eliot take that picture of you? It’s reaaly good!
i love the warriors and hate baseball too…
Flashback to April 1 of this year. The supposed Franz Ferdinand/Christopher Cross mash up. I sat there and listened to the whole thing.
You are the best.

Congrats on the great press!

Chris, that was an original song for the movie written by Craig Wedren and Theodore Shapiro.
Check out Craig’s Gothamist interview! http://www.gothamist.com/interview/archives/2004/08/13/craig_wedren_musician.php
WHAS never had an official soundtrack. Unacceptable!
