Deftones recently put out a vinyl box set containing the band’s six studio LPs (1995’s Adrenaline, 1997’s Around the Fur, 2000’s White Pony, 2003’s Deftones, 2006’s Saturday Night Wrist, and 2010’s Diamond Eyes) and 2011′s Record Store Day release Covers. We’re giving away one of these boxes, which have become increasingly tough to get. To enter, you need be a fan of Stereogum on Facebook and comment with your favorite Deftones album via Facebook Connect (do not use your ‘Gum user account on this post — we’ll have to be able to check if you are a fan of Stereogum on FB when the sweepstakes ends). US entrants only and the contest ends 11/30 at 12 PM EST. Only 1000 were made, and both official carriers — Deftones.com and Sound Matters — are sold out of their allotments.

Around The Fur. I definitly loved them from day one, but on the sophmore effort, you could see them growing so fast, and well. I love every album, but this showed us that if this was the fantastic change from a first to second album, then the future had to be amazingly bright. And the rest is history…

I think that all the albums are the shizz!! But if I absolutely had to choose, i would have to say Around the Fur! I have alot of favorites on that album. Deftones is and will always be #1 on my charts!!! ♥ I know my life would be so different without their music in my life! You guys Rock!!!!

Around the fur
I was first exposed to the Deftones through Around the Fur which blew me away. I went from listening to Nine Inch Nails and Korn to wondering what the hell was I wasting my time on and why it took me so long to discover the Deftones. The album that really had the biggest impact to me had to be White Pony. It literally took all that I knew and loved about music and the Deftones and amplified it. It wasn’t just great music, it was and still is a work of art.
Self-titled album is definitely my favorite.

Adrenaline. I love the debut of a talented band. The raw, angry passion of their first album hooked me immediately.
Oh man, it’s so hard to choose between them.
Around the Fur, White Pony, and Adrenaline are all brilliant musical masterpieces.
That being said, I’ve been listening to Around the Fur all day, and so that’s what I’m gonna go with, because it’s just so amazing.
So yea, Around the Fur.

It started in 94, I would beg my big brother to play what I then called “the squeaky fence” song… Minus Blindfold! Adrenaline all the way. Fell in love then and they are still my absolute fav and… I’m 30 now!

It’s a ridiculous toss up between “Around the Fur” and “White Pony” for me. Both are fantastic, no question, but they both delve deep into dark corners through lyrics all while layering almost upbeat music on top. :P
