One of the real joys in Jimmy Fallon’s late-night run has been the Roots’ choices of jokey, thematically appropriate walk-in songs for Fallon’s various celebrity guests: “Da Butt” for Serena Williams, “Hi Hater” for Bill Hader, that sort of thing. According to bandleader ?uestlove himself, the only song choice Fallon ever vetoed was “She Blinded Me With Science” for Katie Holmes. But after the band played Republican presidential candidate Michelle Bachmann on with a cover of Fishbone’s “Lyin’ Ass Bitch,” all that may change.
Though the song choice was intended to be something of an easter-egg inside joke (they didn’t sing the lyrics or anything), news of it leaked out, as news does. Pretty soon, Bachmann was on Fox News complaining of misogyny, and NBC was apologizing. And now, the New York Post shares a Rolling Stone report that ?uestlove will now have to share his song choices with three different NBC execs. At least they haven’t lost their spot.

Does anyone know of a place to see a list of all the walk-on music?

enjoy!
thank you these are genius
Pretty sure the “news leaked out” because ?uest Tweeted about his quote-unquote hilarious joke to the like, hundreds of thousands of people who follow him.
I like The Roots, but they really shouldn’t have played that song when Bachmann came out. I’m not a fan of her’s, but stuff like this only gives Fox and all the nut-balls more ammunition. It was a dumb move all around…
I really don’t understand how this is misogynistic. She IS a lyin’ ass bitch. The things she says, especially concerning the gay population, are completely false and straight-up deranged. Just because she is a woman and The Roots are all men doesn’t mean this is a case of misogyny. I suspect ?uestlove would play a similarly-themed song if Rick Perry or Herman Cain were on the show. The song was commentary on her political and social views, not on her being a woman.
Thats’s your opinion though. I agree with you but it was’nt his place to voice his opinion right there. I would also like to point out that had Max Weinberg done the same to Obama they wouldve deemed him racist and cancelled Conan the next morning.
Bottom line, I think, is that it just ain’t cool to call a woman a bitch on TV, even if she does seem to be pretty evil.
Agreed. Thats what hip hop is for.
I’m not from the US so I do view America politics as an amazing curiosity like the rest of the world but that aside i don’t understand why ?uestlove can’t make his own political statement when the entire point of having her on as a guest is so she can vomit out her politics?
