File under: “perennial indie blog rumor mill bullshit no more.” As first suggested (this week) by Brooklyn Vegan, and quasi-confirmed by Pitchfork this morning, and quasi-substantiated by us just now, Pavement is getting the band back together and everyone will buy all the tickets. On the docket according to our Blogspot Deepthroat is a benefit show on 9/21/10 (as in not next week) at Central Park Summerstage, and on the docket according to our sense of a Pavement tour’s earning potential is a potential Pavement tour. Here’s hoping we can straighten out the ? to a ! on that Pavement To Play ATP? post sometime soon. Rest assured that details will be forthcoming. (UPDATE: Details.)

Oh My God.
Yes, Pavement is your god.
Oh your god, oh my god, it’s everybody’s god…
I forgot to bring a change of pants to work…thanks a lot Pavement! But really, thanks a lot Pavement, you guys are the best!
I’m SO there.
Pavement ist Rad.
Is this real life?
Hope this will go more like a Dinosaur stuff than a Pixies one. I’m sure it will, actually. And I’m so happy.
You all seem so excited. It’s obvious none of you have seen them live. They were not even a big draw when they were around. Comparing them to The Pixies reunion? The Pixies were/are a much, much better live band. I was a Pavement fan until I saw them a couple of times.
sorry bud, i saw them and i’m excited. they weren’t the best band i’ve ever seen, but they were still quite good and will probably be more interested and invested this time (i saw them circa terror twilight).
The funny thing about this is, you say it’s rumour no more.. yet your post is still so vague.. you’re still not certain it seems.
Well…as long as it doesn’t effect the Jicks follow-up…probably just the opposite…good, good…
Fuck the Jicks, this is PAVEMENT.
There is no comparison.
Malk broke new ground on the last one…the master mathematical architect supreme…aging is doing him good I think…It’s his “On the Beach” in a way…all it lacked was Nicky Hopkins…
oh my god…
(oh your god, oh his god, o their god Its everybodys god, its everybodys god, its everybodys god, its everybodys god)
So in other words, it’s still not confirmed…type slowly.
Interesting how it’s quite clear they’ll be able to sell TONS more tickets this time around.
AND THEY WILL MAKE 10 MORE ALBUMS AND TOUR THE WORLD ANNUALLY.
Oh god I want the Stone Temple Pilots to open for them.
i liked surfer rosa
Are these the guys that play “Teenage FBI”?
No, that would be Guided By Voices.
Best news of the year!
Today is a good day.
First off, who cares we all saw this coming. Second, Pavement is probably the most boring of seminal indie rock bands so have fun standing still in a crowd of skinny guys with Grover bodies wearing brown cuordaroys to an energy lacking band.
Yah agreed. Not worth breaking out the Jergens to.
maybe we can dance? maybe we can dance… maybe we can dance… TOGETHER! TOGETHER!
no seriously mad stoked, i like woke up from a nap to this news, called my girlfriend and had to smoke a cigarette.
THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME.
I agree with the point that we all knew this was going to happen eventually. Really, I don’t think people would act like they care as much as they do if Pavement was not so cherished by Pitchfork. The Pitchfork generation is good for playing follow the leader.
Pavement was pretty relevant before Pitchfork had any clout. I’d wager a good number of us heard about Pavement way before Pitchfork.
I agree, they were relevant before Pitchfork had any clout, but for you to have been into Pavement during their heyday would probably mean that you are not a part of the Pitchfork generation.
I hope they don’t sound like the Jicks.
Saw them a few years ago and it sucked really awful.
I hope they don’t play too many songs off Terror Twilight.
That album is a piece of crap.
But people are gonna love anyhting they do.
Hope they rip it up and don’t “Jicks” it up.

I saw pavement live and they were sometimes awesome. They really did suck on their final tour though.
Agreed. I saw them on that final tour. US Maple opened (ugh) and then Pavement kept the crowd waiting for AN HOUR AND A HALF after US Maple. When they finally deigned to appear, Malkmus shamelessly admitted that they had been backstage watching the NCAA finals. What an ass. But I will see them if they come near to me on this reunion tour, because I am a sucka.
Who am I kidding? I’d love to see this.
But the Jicks live sets got much better as both the material improved and they got Janet in the lineup. There’s nothing Janet doesn’t immediately make more kickass. If this is bupkis and all we get is more Jicks, I’m perfectly happy with that. Add Nastanovich to the Jicks lineup, while we’re at it.
this is amazing news, but also, people should stop hatin’ on the jicks. malkmus does no wrong. if it’s cool in your town to hate his solo stuff, move away a listen to those albums.
I call bullshit. A one-off reunion show, on a TUESDAY???
I have been going batshit crazy about this news for the past several hours and I just stopped cumming long enough to post this.
I now have a reason to live.
I had the privilege of seeing Pavement a couple of times, including one of their infamous Lollapalooza shows. Definately a hit or miss band, but, considering what else is going on in music nowadays, a most welcomed return. Now, let’s get to work on Husker Du!
Steve Malkmus is a God. This is the best news ever.
I WANT A RANGE LIFE
if i could settle down
is this that band that sucked really bad?
Maybe we should have asked The National to pray for this sooner?
Pavement is a great band.
Thank you, boys, and thank you, Matador, for releasing the Pavement records in their 2-disc glory.
Once my friend shook stephen malkmus’s hand, and then i shook his hand, and then i gave myself steven malkmus handjobs all night long. true story.
i stinky palmed him, true story
So technically stephen malkmus is gay!
MY POINT EXACTLY.
Oh yeah, and then another time i got an actual handjob from Mark Ibold…
I saw them in 1997 on the brighten the corners was the most important show of my life as i knew from that moment on it would be indie rock for life. Never got the terror twilight tour here so fingers crossed it comes to Australia
The world without pavement is over! It’s been a loooong ten years without ‘em.
Is it too early to begin the Fugazi reunion rumors?
this is not a reunion without Gary.
fvck terror twilight.
Right. Those Gary-less albums like Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain and Wowee Zowee are totally undeserving of veneration.
This is the equivalent to saying that a Beatles reunion would be incomplete without Pete Best.
ugh. i am going. i have to.
ok so if anybody can find me a dl of slow century i will… i don’t know.. be thankful? and i’m sure everyone will up your post a billion ties
Ha I laughed hard about the comment of guys with grover bodies lol>…
I also always laugh everytime someone on here slams pitchfork, somehow though I knew this would turn into who has seen them in the past and whether or not they like them because of this trend or that trend, even if thats so who the fuck cares.
Some people seem to spend more time talking about the people at the shows they went to rather than the actual show, we can all blame the internet for this, but the internet has also brought us bestiality so I guess its tied.
so did this sell out yet?
Woooo! …….not. Very near the most boring band, ever! Bleh. (Stars at shoes, looks self-important and satisfied that my comment will be worshiped like the Gospel)
What’s with the constant Pitchfork hate? I don’t follow what they say as gospel, but they provide a function.
I mean, where did most people first hear about Pavement, or most indie/college rock bands back in the day? Most likely in a fanzine or on a college radio station, which were both equivalent to what Pitchfork provides today — defining tastes by selectively picking left-of-center bands based on sound and/or image. Indie rock has always had a snobbish edge to it. Get over your supposed originality and acknowledge we’re all sheep being led by someone’s marketing pitch.
Reunion tours… or as I like to call them, nostalgia parties, or sorry-you’re-too-young-to-have-caught-us-in-our-prime tours. Let’s hope they do this right, unlike so many acts that “come back” as a shell of their former selves…
I have tickets for the show on Thurs – the Tuesday tix sold so quickly they added more dates – Tues-Wed-Thurs-Fri, all at the Summerstage. Get your tickets!
Shit yeah!
Good times, good times…
