It’s easy to think of the Golden Filter primarily as a remix project because they do a lot of them. That said, the New York “discopop” duo of Penelope and Stephen (and other live folks) sound good doing their own stuff, too. Take a listen to “Thunderbird,” for instance. Their label notes:

The Thunderbird of the title refers to a bird of Native American mythology when used in chant ceremonies symbolises purification and healing. There are several theories about the origin of the Thunderbird, but the most common is that it is a Condor, a gigantic breed of vulture that once flew over the West Coast of the Americas, and now only lives in Chile.

The temporary Thunderbird-in-the-sand is an element of the single’s cover art.

The “Thunderbird” 12″ is out 11/16 via Dummy, where you can download the dub remix of the title track (it’ll also show up as part of the single’s download bundle).

If you purchase the limited-edition 12″, you’ll find a cover of the White Stripes’ “The Hardest Button To Button” on the other side. They did it live here:

That’s real strong cover art…no cheesy starbucks type of font to wreck it…shame the music has nothing to do with it…
