The 2010 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame nominees are here and progressive rock has finally been shown some respect via a nod to Genesis. (NCIS spinoffs have also been shown respect via an LL Cool J nod.) The other first-time nominees are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jimmy Cliff, the Hollies, and finally KISS. The returning nominees — ABBA, the Chantels, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, the Stooges and Donna Summer — are all probably wondering how Madonna beat them to the prize. The induction ceremony, the Hall’s 25th, is scheduled for 3/15 at the Waldorf Astoria, NYC, where five of the above dozen nominees will be selected for induction. (Any bets?) Before that takes place, HOF alumns Bruce Springsteen, U2, Stevie Wonder, Metallica, Paul Simon, and others, are doing that Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Foundation & Museum Benefit at MSG. Speaking of those who’ve already made it, here’s our on-going list of folks who are still surprisingly snubbed:
Beastie Boys
Depeche Mode
Bon Jovi
Peter Gabriel
Cyndi Lauper
Rush
XTC
Slayer
The Smiths
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Duran Duran
The Cure
Sonic Youth
Billy Idol
The Replacements
Tom Waits
Chicago
Willie Nelson
Neil Diamond
Judas Priest
Brian Eno
Hall & Oates
Devo
Captain Beefheart
Kraftwek
Black Flag
Who else? Remember, an artist is only eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first single or album, so you can’t nominate Animal Collective.

Jesus & Mary Chain!!!
Saved by creative mix of nominations….One feels Genesis in the big city…
Stooges will get snubbed again for some old-ass one hit wonder
Flaming Lips!
Joy Division/New Order?
Todd Rundgren. Twice. For his music (Nazz, Something/Anything, AWATS) and for his production credits (New York Dolls, XTC, Psychedelic Furs, The Tubes, Patti Smith, etc. etc. etc.)
Couldn’t agree more. A Wizard/A True Star sounds like nothing else from that era.
So many undeserving people have been inducted into the R&R HoF, the title has since lost much of its honor and prestige. But yes, I have hopes for the Stooges but in all likelyhood they will get snubbed again.
I hope the Chili Peppers make it in just for Frusciante’s sake.
However I do agree with quite a few of those bands keep getting snubbed. Especially Stevie Ray Vaughn and Rush.
amen to this. frusciante is an underrated everything.
Couple more:
Cheap Trick – major influence on Nirvana and John Lennon was a big fan…perfected the live album with Budokan, and are the true Energizer Bunny of Rock.
Hall & Oates – more #1 songs in the 80′s as a duo than anyone. Started as a Rock group with Soul influences, and haev a great body of work.
Weird Al
The Stooges probably loom the largest in terms of overlooked HOFers. C’mon, if they’re good enough to be remade as Legos for a video game…
Stooges deserve it more than any of those other bands. Especially KISS
i can’t believe that they snubbed sonic youth
my bloody valentine
husker du
Joy Division / New Order, Roxy Music, The Replacements, XTC, the Cure, the Jam, the Smiths.. oh to hell with it….
Black Flag
Cheap Trick
Rush, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper. How is Rush not in it already?
Beasties are guaranteed in next year for the 25th anniversary of Licensed to Ill. Maybe The Smiths too, for Queen is Dead.
Paul Butterfield Blues Band
I think that RHCP will definitely get in. But I find that getting in the RoR is like something cool for some artists but something astonishing to others. Yeah its cool to see your favorite (or not so favorite) artists get in. Its the thrill of it and their fans are happy for them but what else can it do? Add more status to the band? For bands like Led Zeppelin they hardly need the boost of being in the Rock and Roll HoF. They are already legendary. It doesn’t matter. But for bands who are lesser known it can be a good thing. But I have to say that LL Cool J shouldn’t belong because he is a rapper. He is not in the rock genre. I have to agree with the Sex Pistols on the Rock and Roll HoF…
Devo. Pere Ubu. Suicide. Captain Beefheart. Can. Faust. Kraftwek. Neu!. Black Flag. Throbbing Gristle. Cabaret Voltaire. Fela Kuti. The list of the really great and influential bands goes on, and the list of corporate asskissers in the hall grows ever longer.
Sure, sure the Stooges. But Brian Eno deserves it more than anyone. Unless maybe Music For Airports doesn’t count as Rock & Roll?
Sonic Youth and Roxy Music deserve more cred…
Jethro Tull!!!!!!!
No love for Neil Diamond?
The second half of RHCP’s career has been absymal… No way they deserve it.
I agree, except for Californication. That album was pretty decent.
DM
Bon Jovi? No way!
DMX2
DMX3
suicide, spacemen 3, JAMC, joy division/new order, has CAN been inducted? what about bauhaus? The chili peppers deserve it despite a couple questionable albums. they launched an entire industry of imitator’s but no one ever bested them. jane’s addiction will be elegible soon and you wouldn’t keep them out because of the questionable crap they have done since reforming would you? the cure is a no brainer and DM should eventually get in although that new video for Hole to Feed could disqualify them: http://www.depechemode.com/news.html. tom waits for sure and nick cave eventually.
and as for rap…LL Cool J didn’t break any ground that Run DMC hadn’t already broken. The next rap groups to get in should be De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, Schoolly-D, The Beastie Boys, N.W.A. and Public Enemy. All of them did something that hadn’t been done before. Schooly D will probably never get in because he is criminally under-appreciated.
They’d better reference Peter Gabriel-era Genesis. None of that “Invisible Touch” shit.
genesis is genesis = gabriel + phil. no love lost for big pg but phil is damned goood at what he does. do yrspf a favor and take in a show
Why the heck is Lou Reed not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?
Does anybody remember the band who sold out Shea Stadium quicker than The Beatles? The band that sold the most concerts in 1971? The band who sold the most records in America from 1970-1975? The band with the most played song in 1975 (Bad Time)? The only band in history to cover a #1 hit song and achieve the same rating? The band who was HATED by critics but LOVED by the People? The People’s Band, The AMERICAN Band, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD!!!
