You’ve probably already heard the “Young Folks”/ex-Concretes singer Victoria Bergsman, aka Taken By Trees, do her gender-specific take on “My Girls.” Now you can watch her, aka her stunt double, walk a tightrope in an idyllic, sunspotted field while intoning the crowd-pleasing East Of Eden track. More than just showing off her balance, there’s probably a metaphor in there somewhere. (It’s in that sentence I just typed, too.)

Borefest. Nice try at getting more popularity by covering the most hyped song of 2009., too bad it didn’t work out well.
ugh, why do there have to be people like you?
It got your attention didn’t it? She didn’t need this song for hype. Her originals stand on their own.
Personally East Of Eden was one of my favorite albums so far this year. The video was simple sure, but thats what makes it so great.
slacklining meets indie rock. FINALLY.
Van Gogh makes painting a chair look easy…
Agreed. crappy cover. Plus that detuned guitar is ripping off the riff from Wolf Parade’s “shine a light”
Which is ripped off from Joe Satriani.
you’re thinking of “I’ll believe in anything.” even then, it’s a stretch to call it a “rip off.” It’s a great cover, kids. Apparently i’ve taken it upon myself to be the Official Defender of Taken by Trees today.
I’m with you in the Taken by Trees defense team. East of Eden is a beautiful album.
Victoria’s head scarf is reminding me of Dirty Projectors’ Stillness is the Move video. Without llamas of course.
Yes, it’s a cover of the most critically acclaimed song on 2009. Yes, it does have an arpeggiation that is distinctly I’ll Believe in Anything. The song is still great though. If you don’t believe me, take some time to listen to the album, Anna, To Lose Someone and the Grayest Love of All are all phenominally original and beautiful songs that I think easily eclipse this one. I wouldn’t have known about any of them without this one to grab my attention, though.
Woman on a wire. And East of Eden is an enjoyable record.
okay, this has nothing to do with the song, but she looks kind of like eminem wearing a wig. it had to be said.
Too soon, Victoria… you should have done “Combination IKEA/Saab Dealership.” That would have been meta.
At least her version doesn’t sound like 311.
