The wait’s over. We spent quite a bit of time this past last week nibbling “Pork And Beans” and wondering where the single’s minimalist cover scheme (look to the right to partially jog your memory) would fit into the overall album design. For starters, turns out they both have red on them. Also, as you might have noticed from our headline, they have, in fact, gone the Weezer route, which means pretty soon we’ll all be calling this puppy The Red Album. And, speaking of the color albums: Keep those in mind for Red’s overall look. Albeit, with a Western flair.

Very Marlboro man of you, Rivers. Sorry for the blurriness — once we find a larger version of the art, we’ll jettison this one. Until then, please dig into the rest of the meal:

01 “Troublemaker”
02 “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Hymn)”
03 “Pork and Beans”
04 Heart Songs”
05 “Everybody Get Dangerous”
06 “Dreamin’”
07 “Thought I Knew”
08 “Cold Dark World”
09 “Automatic”
10 “The Angel and the One”

Bonus tracks for the Deluxe Edition:

11 “Miss Sweeney”
12 “Pig”
13 “The Spider”
14 “King”

If you want to do some more Weezer reading, here’s the official press release.

The Red Album is out 6/24 on Geffen.

    ahahahahaha that’s terrible.

  4. Judging by the looks of Rivers stomach, I guess he really does need to work it out at the gym.

  5. I can’t wait for this album. My friend and I are already planning what kind of sweet Weezer party we’re going to have.

YIKES. Or as Flav would say, “WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!! WAH-HAH-HOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!”

  9. Greg  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2008

That cover says everything about Weezer’s last album. No focus. Everyone looks like they are in completely different places.

  10. Chadams, I have an image of Flav saying “WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW stuck in my head now.

  11. Sean Jean  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2008

That picture seals the deal that this album is going to suck farts.

  12. Justin  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2008

It’s amazing how all of you are so forward thinking that you can judge an album by its cover–reminds me of a sage cliche.

That said, this album is going to suck.

  13. fergmonkey  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2008

Being a long suffering weezer fan, i’ve sat through some pretty terrible weezer. But considering that the two tracks we’ve heard in full (pig, and pork and beans) are the best two weezer songs we’ve had in quite a long time, it seems a little strange that you’re all so sure it’s going to be awful.

I mean honestly, beverly hills was the single we heard ahead make believe, and look how that album turned out? The poor single was indicative of a poor album. Now we get a halfway decent first single, and you still expect the album to suck? You guys sure are hard to please!

    • bubba paris  |   Posted on Apr 23rd, 2008

Hey, we sat through the Green Album, Maladroit, and fucking Make Believe. We are right to be skeptical.

  14. It does kind of look like they were each cut out from 4 different pictures and photoshopped together. it could be symbolic…but since “Pork and Beans” is the best Weezer song in 6 years, I’m willing to keep an open mind.

You people need to get a sense of humor. I think it rules.

    • bubba paris  |   Posted on Apr 23rd, 2008

but rivers is the only one being silly. the rest of them aren’t. or if they are, they totally failed. someone make a lolcat quick.

Since when did Justin Bobby join the group?

  17. lol weezer  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2008

No way is Pork and Beans the best song Weezer has put out recently. Make Believe is a huge pile of shit but Perfect Situation, probably the only listenable thing on there I can recall right now, is better than that.

  18. someone should tell geffen that green is not a primary color.

  19. Everyone who says it sucks, here’s five dollars – go buy yourselves a sense of humor, you pricks. It’s sad that Weezer has fans who don’t even get what the band is about, humorwise. GTFO.

That said, Perfect Situation sucks. It has its moments, but the verses are cringe inducing. “Pork and Beans” and “Pig” are two of the most solid songs Rivers has produced in a while, and “Automatic” sounds like it could be good. Every Weezer album has it’s moments, but this one could be the most solid since Pinkerton.

  20. Sean Jean  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2008

If you think Pork and Beans is good, you are in denial, and need to open your eyes. That song would fit perfectly on Make Believe. I don’t see much difference between it and Beverly Hills, right down to song structure. They are both uninteresting crap. I love old Weezer, but this isn’t any better.

  21. jimm  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2008

pork and beans is pretty damn good the chorus alone is classic weezer….what would we all be thinking if “buddy holly” came out today “what’s with these homies dissing my girl, why do they gotta front” “i look just like buddy holly and you’re mary tyler moore” just as cheesy and refernced based as pork and beans. and while the verses could be subtler, they work….this is exactly what i’d expect weezer to sound like in 14 years if i was a teenager or 20 something in 1994…. green is most definitely a primary color

    • Yeah, people need to stop looking at Weezer’s old material with their retro-goggles on. A lot of Rivers’ old stuff would be condemned today as being cheesy and odd, were it being made today. That’s not to say that their old stuff is bad or that their new stuff is all good, but let’s try to keep some perspective. Frankly, I think that good Weezer music is more about the “attitude” of the music, than the actual music itself. I think Rivers is slowly getting into a good place.

    • more importantly, green is DEFINITELY NOT a primary color, seeing as its a combination of blue and yellow. Jimm, u ever pee in a 200 Flushes toilet?

  22. Notoriously Unreliable  |   Posted on Apr 22nd, 2008

Ooh, right down to the song structure! That’s some deep analysis. So deep in fact that you miss almost every relevant trait of the song.

  23. Sean Jean  |   Posted on Apr 23rd, 2008

Sorry Notorious. I’ll go ahead and draft up a white paper analysis of “Pork and Beans” and have it peer reviewed and ready for presentation by the end of the day. Oh wait, it’s a comment on a music blog. I forgot. Shut up.

Not to mention it’s hard to have “deep analysis” of a meaningless song called “Pork and Beans” that sounds like the work of a 15 year old. Next I’ll deeply analyze the most recent episode of “According to Jim.”

  24. bubba paris  |   Posted on Apr 23rd, 2008

scott looks like a fuckin douchenozzle.

  25. yo yo  |   Posted on Apr 23rd, 2008

This album cover is just mocking all the “looks” of indie bands over the past 5 years. It’s a joke.. as soon as I saw it I started laughing my ass off… you got the New York Fedora hipster, the School Teacher hipster, the wannabe Americana hipster, and the typical LA retard hipster.

Also, since when did people decide that the Green album sucked? Weezer’s first 3 albums and b-sides all kick ass.. the rest of it blew hard donkey.

    Cheers.

  26. Andrew Stone  |   Posted on Apr 23rd, 2008

Actually, the Green Album does suck. It’s Maladroit that’s not as bad as people think.

  28. Sean Jean  |   Posted on Apr 23rd, 2008

Actually, the Green Album, Maladroit, and Make Believe all suck. One may suck more or less than the other, but the suck is still there in spades.

  29. Benjamin  |   Posted on Apr 23rd, 2008

This single does have some aspects of make believe, but altogether, this single is giving me a lot of hope for the new album. I hated the last two, and they are in need of a good album. i need it. and same with everyone else.

  30. I’m just gonna chime in here and say I thought Make Believe was their best since Pinkerton. Their only bad album, in my book, is Maladroit.

  31. ew the outerglow on the font makes me puke, might as well use comic sans bros

  32. That cover makes all graphic designers cringe in pain. seriously, my little brother can do better.

  33. becca  |   Posted on May 10th, 2008

anybody who cares more about what the album cover looks like than the music shouldnt be a weezer fan.
that being said… this album in my opinion has either really good songs or really bad ones. dreamin, the greatest man that ever lived, pork and beans, and trouble maker are all good in my opinion. definitly better than make believe

  34. Ian O  |   Posted on May 13th, 2008

People: now you can listen to it. The (8) songs are either amazing or horrible, depending on you, not the songs. It’s easily the most diverse, adventurous, and polarizing album they’ve made. The cover sucks or is brilliant, depending on your view of the music.
(not that it matters, but my opinion is:)
‘The Greatest Man…’ is horrible and ridiculous but is easily the most impressive thing they’ve ever recorded. ‘Heart Songs’ and ‘Dreamin” are great. The rest is hip-hop influenced POP rock tailor-made for radio.
    eh.
But still – for some people, that’s exactly what they want/need.
and yes, Maladroit deserves another listen, if you haven’t recently.

  35. dale cooper  |   Posted on May 15th, 2008

just a few comments here: i agree that make believe was overall a horrible album, out of all the demos and whatnot that came out before that album, they seemed to choose the weakest songs of the bunch. That being said, I still think “Peace” is one of the best weezer songs on any record, but yea, the rest was pretty lame and not rockin. Maladroit had some weak songs on it, but was acutally a great cd in my opinion. it lets the cheesey rock/metal part of rivers shine, and has another top ten song for me: “Death and Destruction”. As for the new record, i feel like its going to be a make believe sort of experience; i think there will be 3 or 4 songs that stand out and the rest “will have to grow on me” but they wont grow on me cuz they are not good or memorable songs…but again “Dreamin” seems like the best, simplest weezer song in recent memory

  36. great albums !! yeaaaahhh weezer never die… keep rock ya !!

  38. andrew  |   Posted on May 22nd, 2008

the new cd is amazing. the greatest man that ever lived is completely incredible. In my opinion, maladroit and make believe ( maybe a little green) have nothing on the blue, pinkerton, and RED! they let loose and are a lot more non-pop in this cd whch is awesome. maladroit and the others were still really good, just not amazing. red is amazing.

  39. andrew  |   Posted on May 22nd, 2008

yeah, weezer shows a lot of mockery in the cover. guys, stop being girls about it.

  48. the first 8 songs to this album leaked actually this is the best album since pinkerton. everyone in the band has vocals parts its somewhat reminiscent of the beatles abbey rooad.

  49. does nobody realise that the only reason weezer haven’t released a decent album since pinkerton is because matt sharp left the band. he was what gave weezer their ‘edge’. all those interesting extra bits to their songs are gone, and all we’re left with are try hard, self involved pop.

maybe matt gave weezer an “edge”–but it doesn’t seem like he’s given one to the rentals. and if you have to “suffer” through every weezer album since pinkerton, i don’t think you ought to be calling yourself a fan. i think it sounds like you really don’t like the band at all. there have been good songs on every album weezer has released, and there have been some even better b-sides over the years. it’s incredibly rare for any band to strike gold every time. what are you really asking from weezer and why? most of you “fans” probably haven’t paid for an album since pinkerton anyway.

  52. MPLSJDUB  |   Posted on Jun 4th, 2008

A few songs can be skipped, but over all I like the Red Album. It shows growth! Listen to it a few times and actually listen to some of the lyrics on the songs you may not like right away. For example Heart Songs…I can dig it now.

  53. Thank you for making another album. There is so much soul in this one that it makes me want to cry. Well done. Well done.

  54. there have been good songs since pinkerton, but there haven’t been any great albums. if you can honestly tell me that you can listen to green, or maladroit, or whatever without wanting to skip a song then fair enough…but if you have found yourself skipping songs like “o, girlfriend” or “hold me”, to name just a few, then get your head out of your ass and shut the hell up!

  55. nick bailey  |   Posted on Jun 9th, 2008

i have all the albums, and just got the new ‘red’ album. i like the timing over their best self titled ‘coloured’ albums 94 blue, 2001 green and now red 2008. these are easily there best, (dont know why people are slating the green so much?) also maladroit is preety dam good. ive listened to the new album 4 times back to back and it is the best album they have ever done. period. well done rivers

  56. don ruby  |   Posted on Jun 14th, 2008

I bought RED three days ago and I keep listening to it. I like it. I wish they would “shred” a bit more but I guess its just enough to keep me listening. The cover photo makes me wonder if they are making fun of lots of things on this album. Automatic sounds like tongue in cheek Oasis. The Angel and the One is pure Matthew Sweet. I just wonder if they would shred a bit more when they play these songs live.

    • buckeye  |   Posted on Jul 12th, 2008

excellent mathew sweet reference. i can listen to red start to finish. also “girlfriend” remains top ten all time

  57. whoah dude. red album is sick.
but im sorry the blue album is by far the best thing they’ve ever done….ever

  58. Billy  |   Posted on Aug 1st, 2008

all of their albums are amazing… you guys should release some albums and then you can talk all the shit you want.

that said the red album is pretty sick, another solid album from a solid band.
