The man born Robert Van Winkle has already been through so many different career reinventions since his initial wave of pompadours-and-Hammerpants popularity faded. There was the gangsta weedhead phase, the nu-metal phase, the reality TV phase, and, most recently, the Juggalo phase. And now, thanks to a pretty-funny comedy skit on The Soup, he’s at least willing to entertainingly fake the indie rock phase. In the video below, Ice plays ukulele and leads an Echo Park crowd in a singalong of that acoustic version of “Ice Ice Baby” that you did when you were drunk in your dorm room that one time.
You have to admit: His rationale makes total sense, and nobody would complain if he was booked at Coachella.

Well it’s about damn time.
A few years ago I was privy to the very first night of his motivational speaker phase. Needless to say, it was a trainwreck and he was arrested on domestic violence charges shortly thereafter.
I expected Vanilla Ice would go chillwave instead. You know, because ice is…. uh…. chilly.
well this is of course major, breaking news – however i’ve gotta say I’m devastated that Stereogum has opted to not let people in Australia (like me) view this video.
Yo VIP let’s retune this Ukelele, damn Ukelele’s always goin’ outta tune so easily, kick it!
Indie is dead?

The LDR thread is that way –>
That little chinbeard’s not winning him any indie points. -_-
it’s hard to win points with hipsters.
Spaceballs! Oh shit! There goes the planet…
“They told me I could be anything I wanted. So I became VANILLA ICE!!!”
