He’s been the most visible member of the White Stripes, the Raconteurs, and the Dead Weather, but Jack White has never gone full-on solo for any extended period of time. That’s about to change. White’s debut solo album Blunderbuss comes out in April, and “Love Interruption,” the first single, is streaming below. It’s a ridiculously catchy acoustic-guitar-and-electric-piano track with a gospel-infused Americana sort of sound to it, and on first listen, it’s the best White-related track I’ve heard since at least the last Dead Weather album.

The digital version of “Love Interruption” goes on sale tonight, and there’s also a 7″ coming 2/7, with the non-album track “Machine Gun Silhouette” serving as the B-side. Blunderbuss is out 4/24 on Third Man/Columbia.

uh huh and how does that make you feel..Is it possible you are projecting your Father onto Jack White? Tell us a little about your childhood….

I’m confused. Jack White is “no longer the genius [you] once revered him to be”, but he’s also “an unimpressive one trick pony”?
Between the White Stripes and the Raconteurs, Jack White had released 7 full-length albums by the time the second Raconteurs album came out. He’d produced 13 albums. Then there are the various EPs and singles, of which I’m sure there are many given his predilection for boutique vinyl releases.
My point is, if his aura of genius lasted for 7 albums, he clearly has more than one trick. Alternately, you have a very low bar for what you consider to be “genius”.

your first comment = quality…the second comment=garbage..also your lack of capitalization….i don’t trust you anymore and you are not the angry commenter i once revered you to be..
I see what you did there
i’m glad you had something valid to say in all of this
I disagree about The Dead Weather for sure. I think Sea of Cowards is a better album than Horehound.
As for the Raconteurs, I think Broken Boy Soldiers is probably the better album but I wouldn’t call Consolers of the Lonely to be garbage.
No argument on ICP. That was highly distressing.
I like this song. Jack stated on the Third Man Records Vault chat earlier today that “the song love interruption is not indicative of the sound of the entire album”
i think the first single they release for sea of cowards is the best song they’ve written, which is why i was so disappointed when i heard the rest of it..
i think consolers was highly over-produced and lacked the effortless panache of the first album (most likely because they recorded in a major studio and not in jack white’s attic like they did the first one)..
the song is alright, the lyrics and imagery are interesting, but the female harmonies really ruin it for me.. the melody is interesting but he should’ve just sang it himself..
I think Broken Boy Soldiers was recorded in Brendan’s attic, but I’m not positive.
Anyway it’s all just different opinion. I think Horehound has some solid songs but is inconsistent whereas Sea of Cowards is amazingly solid. To each their own.
I really enjoyed that. Even though I like The Dead Weather, I’ve always wanted him to just get around to making a solo record. I’m eagerly awaiting the rest.
Who’s the girl singing?
Is it Emmylou Harris? I bet it’s Emmylou Harris. I hope it’s Emmylou Harris. Errybody gets Emmylou Harris.
…but in all seriousness, I have no clue.
…Emmylou Harris.
I think it may just be his voice sped up. If you listen closely near the end when the back-up vox seem to be the loudest there’s a definite chipmunk vibe.
It’s Ruby Amanfu.
you get a thumbs down for being correct. is that like, your thing? being right all the time? cool.
uhm, am I the only one who thinks that he looks like Michael Jackson in that pic? creepy :s
Was just going to say that. He looks more like Michael Jackson every year
Correction: Michael Jackson looks like HIM every year.
HIM looks more like Jack White every year.
Ha. YES!
Annie Clark and Jack White are having a contest to see who can look more like Michael Jackson.
This is good shit. Oh how I’ve missed you, Jack.

what a rebel.
So brave.
Why do people keep getting on this site to complain about how cool we are?
Cool
I get where you’re coming from. I felt like the lame guy for a long time being a non-White Stripes fan in the early and mid 2000s.
Being cool for cool’s sake is pretty cool. Jack White would think so.
It sounds like The White Stripes
Yeah, it does. Not surprising, given that he was really the sole creative force in The White Stripes. It’s a little on the softer side. Very stripped down. Nice song. If this gives us a good idea of what to expect from the solo album, I’ll be satisfied.
Sounds like Jack White… which is handy, since it is! Quality musician that sets a high standard in whatever he puts his hand to.
Well said, Heavycake.
Least surprising album title ever.
Beh, kinda boring. I’d be more interested in a Meg White solo album.
A Meg White solo album would be super interesting. Not sure if she could do it without Jack being involved in at least one track.
As the press photo indicates, White experienced the titular love interruption while trying to shave.
Highly contrasted black & white photo + Jack’s paleness = Didn’t even realize he was shaving until your comment
Could it be that Jack’s had his day?
He had a good run in The White Stripes; mixed success with Dead Weather / The Raconteurs; been semi -successful as a producer for Wanda Jackson and baffling work with TV jock Stephen Colbert and covered Mozart’s “Leck Mich Im Arsch” (Lick My Arse) with Insane Clown Posse!?!?… Let’s hope he makes a return to form. If anything, he needs to sound less like Jack White (Boxing himself in) and experiment a little more – With better chosen sparring partners, of course… http://auralfood.blogspot.com.au/
boring.
I’ve always liked the White Stripes and his other stuff, but none of it ever completely did it for me. That is painfully vague, I know, but I can’t put my finger on it. It varies song to song, but there was always enough missing from my reactions to most White Stripes songs to really consider myself a fan. The point is, this song is different, shows him going in a direction that I like more for him. It’s not better than plenty of White Stripes songs, but I’m now super excited to hear the rest of the album.
It’s a step in the right direction.
I really like it. I think it’s a cool duet and a great, simple song. What I don’t like is the way that a lot of people hate on haters on this site. It’s kind of bringing me down. But when I listen to Jack White, I’m not so down anymore.
Sweeney Todd is looking glum these days
Sounds like “Son of a Preacher Man” at the start.
Is a wee bit dull, to be quite honest. I want it to be better, I’m trying.
Either you like it or you don’t – Trying to like some song because you liked an artist in the past is being sentimental
if i heard this on a White Stripes record, i would probably skip past it, knowing the next track would likely be better
White Stripes > His solo stuff
needle in the hayyyyyy
