While this song was written expressly for New Moon, Ben Gibbard’s admitted he’s never read any of Stephanie Meyer’s vampire romance novels (he’s more of a Kerouac fan). Chris Walla, however, has read the first two! And Nick Harmer is like super into zombies and shit. Not to mention the saga is set in DCFC’s neck of the woods. My point is, this partnership isn’t really weird at all. (Thom Yorke’s contribution is still a tiny bit weird.) In this dusky video for the blockbuster soundtrack’s first single, RPattz and KStew (yes I just typed that) appear via dramatic film scenes cut with equally dramatic close-ups of the band. Except during the bridge when they all stand still for some reason? The Walter Robot-directed clip was so highly anticipated it got a prime-time debut on MTV earlier tonight. MTV! In the event you weren’t tuned in for Disaster Date, you can watch it here:

Or watch here (after a commercial) if the YouTube comes down.

Dam one of these days a band will make a music video promoting a movie where the
film clips aren’t inspliced with the video of the band playing just 2 minutes of the band and
then 2 minutes of the movie

i kind of wish it was 2004 when ben gibbard was fat and didnt write vampire love songs for books he “didnt read”.

  19. there needs to be more music videos that feature bands standing at their instruments and not playing them at all like during the bridge of this one.

  20. suzannelise  |   Posted on Oct 12th, 2009 0

is this a Ben Gibbard version of a wedding song? Just like “follow you into the dark” was a love song? didn’t he get married right around the equinox?

  21. I preferred Death cab for cute about… humm… 7-8 years ago.

I’m not the only one who thinks that this song is basically a remake of a Joy Division song, right? (Or one of several other early-80s new wave songs.)
