Ex-Vivian Girls drummer (and NYC bartender) Frankie Rose recently made the Crystal Stilts an Ex too, starting her own project, the all-girl quintet Frankie Rose & The Outs. Well, almost all-girl: Crystal Stilts guitarist JB Townsend contributes to their forthcoming single. (The split was clearly amicable.) Rose still keeps her drums skill sharp as a member of Dum Dum Girls, but when guiding the Outs, she handles lead vocals and guitar. Take a listen to her chops on the dusky, jangly “Thee Only One.” Right, “thee” like Thee Headcoats, or more on target, Thee Headcoatees.
“Thee Only One” b/w “Hollow Life” is out 10/27 via Slumberland. You can hear the ethereal Grouper-esque standout B-Side at MySpace. Also look for a split 7″ with Dum Dum Girls on Hell, Yes! Some live dates:
