Despite the fact that they’re also reuniting with their old band, At The Drive-In, for Coachella stops and a tour, Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López will put out another record as Mars Volta later this spring. Today, they revealed the first single from Noctourniquet, “The Malkin Jewel,” and it’s a lurching, sloppy (in a good way) psych jam that channels a different vibe than their best-known, grandiose style. Noctourniquet is out 3/27 on Warner Bros.

i meant to thumbs up that guy but failed, yep the vid is gone
Noctourniquet is a pretty silly name even by Mars Volta standards. It reminds me of when everyone was making LCD Soundsystem coffee puns
and Amputechture wasn’t? :P
A Mars Volta song under 5 minutes??
wat?
when jack white’s creativity ran out it went into cedric’s vocal chords WHY the fuck does this sound so much like the white stripes?
also their song titles have been self-parodying themselves since album one. every single song.
It reminds me a lot of defacto but with more of a straight TMV prog feeling behind it. I like the direction.
