Have you seen the new video from Sarah McLachlan? Instead of spending $150,000 on camera crews, editors, hair and make-up, etc… the singer donated the “World On Fire” budget to charity.
The clip cites numerous examples of how the money spent on one music video could be better spent on food, medicine, and education in third world countries. Take that Chingy, you selfish prick!

A noble gesture, or should Sarah get off her high horse? Watch it here.

I watched this video not ever hearing about it before, and I cried. I am moved that people humble themselves to help the poverty stricken so God’s grace can sweep over the hearts of men. Thank you Sarah… keep it up!
If sarah quite recording i would probably die bacause she has been my favourite sisnger sience i was born when i was a baby and i was crying my mom would play sarah and i would stop crying and as soon as i could talk right after mama and dada i was singing adia. and i have to say as a teen i am very influenced by her like instead of being likr britteny and marying every guy she sees she has been married to the same guy for like ever and i would not be myself with out her music and my mp3 player was recently stolen and that is all i had for listening to her in bed and i am completly lost with out her music in my beroom so every time i get to go on the computer i turn her music on like right now i’m listening to stupid (lov it)my aunt jen worked for sarah and got me her autograph it was one of the best things i ever got it says *to Megan-All good thing’s to you* o drifting wuhooany ways i think sarah is the greatest female artist not only in canada but also the rest of the world p.s. i’m canadian go canada i’d love to write more but some one wants the computer. and i no i’m not good at spelling so dont rub it in.

She’s not telling any other artists to do this, or looking down on any artist that spends a lot of a fancy video. Of course that will still happen, and imo there’s nothing wrong with that either. This is a free world, any artist can choose to do whatever they wish with their fortune, it’s not like Sarah has never made a music video before.
Also, if the video was made on $15 then its perfectly reasonable she had an editor friend would would do this for free considering the cause. It wasn’t any massively fantastic animations there. Seemed like a bit of a clipart fest tbh.
It’s a wonderful gesture and brings to light the amount of money spent on a small thing like a video and how small decisions made by people with the power to do so, can make big changes for those with no power at all.
It’s a lovely video and a lovely gesture. No one can fault Mclachlan for doing this and anyone who does is just a cynical by-product of a commercially driven world.
