R.I.P. Women Guitarist Christopher Reimer

According to the National Post (via the Calgary Herald), guitarist Christopher Reimer of the acclaimed Canadian indie rock outfit Women passed away in his sleep last night. His cause of death is still unknown. He was 26.

Women have been on a hiatus since a fistfight broke out between the group at a show in 2010.

Here is Reimer in concert with Women on their standout “Black Rice:”

  1. Yeesh. Bad vocal monitors?

  2. sucktown.

  3. wow, very sad :(

  4. Upsetting news to say the least. I hope WOMEN can return despite this and be the great indie rock band I felt they could have been after Public Strain.

  5. Yeah this is a major bummer. Reimer’s pretty integral (guitar and vocals) and I’m sure the band is more concerned with losing a friend than releasing an album at this point. I’m thinking Women are gone, but not without releasing 2 amazing albums.

And can I raise the question that everyone wants to know when a 26-year-old dies? That is, was something afoul in his death?

  6. I would also like to know what happened exactly. The death’s obviously sad no matter what, but if he died of natural causes, I will probably plunge into a fun spiral of “I HAVE TWO YEARS LEFT TO LIVE! WHAT HAVE I ACCOMPLISHED?!” for a few days.

  7. I feel sick to my stomach. What a talent.

  8. so sad. really bummed about this. and yeah, there was little hope for a new Women album ever happening even before this, but now i seriously doubt that it will ever happen. anyway, my thoughts are with his family and those who were close to him.

    RIP
