Drake’s pretty-entertaining beef with Common is now apparently over, but the young man may have a scarier challenge ahead of him. For the first time in what feels like forever, erratic bark-rap legend DMX is out of prison and ready to make music again. Last night, Dark Man X played a reportedly-triumphant comeback show in New York, but not before getting on the radio and talking about how much he dislikes Drake.
Here’s what X said about Drake in an interview on New York’s Power 105: “I don’t like anything about Drake. I don’t like his fucking voice. I don’t like what he talks about. I don’t like his face. I don’t like the way he walks, nothing. I don’t like his haircut. I might just… Let me shut up. I’m gonna stop right there.” He also fired a few shots at Rick Ross and opted not to take the DJ’s bait and lash out at Lil Wayne. Observe the video:

LOL. Shit is comedy. DMX was at the top when i was a little younger, and he fell off, hard. But hip-hop definitely can get more interesting with his return.

I never liked describing musicians as “irrelevant”. DMX has like six platinum albums. Maybe he isn’t in the spotlight now, but saying, “oh, we don’t blog about you every week so you’re worthlesss” just seems really mean. To me, no one who makes music is irrelevant, no matter how good or bad their music is.
chris brown and his father DMX are bot irrelevant, not because of their music, but because they are both horrific, unapologetically disgusting human beings who ruin lives (both human and animal). I don’t care if they’re the fucking beatles – if you’re a scumbag, your thoughts and voice aren’t important and go to jail.

I love reading about DMX’s arrests. His Wikipedia entry used to be way longer and had lengthy descriptions of every arrest, but one of the Wiki-nerd with no sense of humor saw fit to “clean up” the arrests section. This one is still the standard for celebrity arrests:

What’s this strange feeling? I can’t quite…..I’ve never felt like this before……is this?….is this……respect?…..for DMX? Who would have thought it?
I would actually argue that DMX is a pretty good rapper. Everyone knows his crazy-ass dog-barking hits (imagine a voiceover saying that in an infomercial for his “Greatest Hits” album one day) but tracks like “Stop Being Greedy” and “Damien” are really legitimately good, just to name a couple. He captures street paranoia extremely well. I can also see why he doesn’t like Drake at all, because I think DMX puts a lot more of himself into his rapping than Drake does. Check out the video of DMX freestyling with Jay-Z and you see the expressiveness and ability that people sometimes don’t pick up on his albums because of the barking and such. Watch any video of Drake freestyling and you see him reading off a Blackberry. I like Drake, but when it comes down to pure rapping ability, I think DMX is better.
