Glaswegian warm-hearted rockers Frightened Rabbit are seven inches closer to a follow-up to their excellent The Midnight Organ Fight LP with a pair of new tracks, out next month and billed as a “perfect … first indicator of the new album.” “Swim Until You Can’t See Land” is a slightly elevated take on the band’s brand of expansive intimacy, and here its chiming guitars, equally lush backing vocals and string arrangement by labelmate Hauska, and Scott Hutchison’s melodic, watery metaphors get a similarly gorgeous visual pairing via quick zooms, midnight lighting, and a crowd of flickering flashlights. If this is what the new album will be like, I will like the new album.
The “Swim Until You Can’t See Land” b/w “Fun Stuff” 7″ is out 11/16 via FatCat. Pre-order it here. Frightened Rabbit’s yet untitled new record is expected in Spring 2010.

holy shit. so good.
Agreed, tommy.
Agreed, tom and eric.
They just keep getting better.
However, they’re not Glaswegian, they’re from Selkirk about 60 miles SE from Glasgow. And 60 miles in tiny tiny Scotland makes a big difference. ;)
Is it just me or does the audio clip/distort like crazy???
I think it’s meant to be that way. I kind of like it. Great song.
Love this band. Love this song.
love the new song, likin the new direction of the next album
And so my obsession with them continues…
Based on their previous efforts, I was expecting this song to be pretty good, but I was not expecting it to be that fucking good!
And all indie rockers should take note – that’s how you make a great video on a budget.
Nuts track. Btw, the sound is in fact distorted in the video clip – you don’t hear that buzz when you stream it from their label’s site.
@Frank – The brothers Hutchison are originally from Selkirk. But they’ve all lived in Glasgow for years. So everybody’s right.
amazing.
Wow – looks like I’ve slept on these guys for far too long – great stuff.
yeah stereogum, hopefully they’ll get the deserved recognition they didn’t get last year
Ooops no video! it is a pity
Feeling the complete opposite of your last sentence. If the entire album will sound like this, I will probably not like it. It just sounds dull and by-the-numbers.
