Karin Dreijer’s take on Nick Cave, Anita Lane, and, really, Blixa Bargeld’s “Stranger Than Kindness” has graduated from that limited-edition tour 7″ to a spot on the second disc of the new Fever Ray Deluxe Edition. You’ll find her Vashti Bunyan cover on it too, along with all the album’s awesome videos. Speaking of which, “Stranger Than Kindness” has its own Andreas Nilsson-directed clip. Like the others, it’s draped in shadows and an eerie beauty that’s part deep woods/part fashion runway (i.e. it’s not surprising it debuted via Vanity Fair).

Fever Ray‘s Deluxe Edition is out 11/24. You’ll find more info at feverray.com. Also, this Friday The Guardian‘s publishing an interview with Dreijer followed by a “unique URL” in the Saturday paper that’ll allow folks to download the album for free.

Why is it that only Americans, the South not included, seem to find black face offensive?

    Awesome video ?

    • I think it’s because blackface was used primarily in the US (not being a movie buff, I’m not sure how widely it was used in other countries) to ridicule black people. Combined with our country’s history of unjust race relations, blackface becomes a sensitive topic because it references a period that most Americans aren’t particularly proud of.

I was being facetious as the video wasn’t exactly a minstrel show, but I appreciate your thoughtful answer.

  2. But more to the point of this blog…

Haven’t had a chance to watch this video yet, but based on Fever Ray’s previous work, I’m sure it’s nuts. Love love love Fever Ray

She’s so stylish! Vanity Fair likes her! I bet Karen could get a table at Monkey Bar anytime she wanted.
