When premiering Small Black’s “Bad Lover,” we accompanied the MP3 with the catchy J&MC-echoing pop tune “Despicable Dogs,” its Washed Out remix, and plenty of background information on the duo of ex-Slowlander Josh Kolenik and Ryan Heyner and their self-titled EP. Now Transparent’s releasing a “Despicable Dogs” 7″ that includes a new song, “Kings Of Animals.” On the b-side “Kings” picks up the tempo a bit and manages to make me think of Conor Oberst fronting Guided By Voices for an elegiac end-of-the-night anthem.

Wrong font…almost…
These guys are playing the Bell House in Brooklyn with Free Energy next week.
I prefer Big Black better.
I don’t get the Guided By Voices comment…and why must there always comparisons to other bands…is everything that derived? I listened to their old Slowlands stuff and it seems like they are jumping on the pop-noise bandwagon!!!
i’ve liked these guys since the first time i came upon them here, and have enjoyed each successive finding since. i just wish there was more!
