I can’t believe this woman is coming to the boring, suburbia-plagued part of Massachusetts minutes away from where I live. The sad part is that you can stick the hugest indie / alternative names in any venue in this area, and it won’t even sell out because nobody in these parts cares for good music. Morrissey flat out ended up cancelling his show at Mountain Park probably because of that, I easily stood in front of the stage at Interpol a few summers back while I remember seeing the Fleet Foxes / Walkmen and Bon Iver shows last summer had tons of tickets going for 1/5th their face value on Craigslist the day of. It sucks for the artists and explains why fewer of them travel through these parts now, but I guess that’s also kind of a blessing for the consumer.
P.S. Fiona, if you make a wrong turn in Holyoke, make sure to lock your doors.
Err, it’ll be my first time in Holyoke when I go see Fiona…what do you mean by “lock your doors”?!
The section where Mountain Park is in Holyoke is nice in a hilly suburban sense, as it’s located away well above the ghetto, leaning toward the Northampton / Amherst college town area that’s cleaner and surrounded by upper-middle class professors, students and liberal types who drive Volvos and do all their grocery shopping at Whole Foods. If you so happen to get a little lost and find yourself in Holyoke’s downtown canal section however, that’s when things get shady. I’m talking street walkers, boarded up windows, drug deals on every street corner and gunshots during daylight and so on. Basically, if you’re driving down a street in Holyoke and start noticing that people are randomly jay-walking into streets and there’s graffiti on buildings drawn to look like money bags, you’ll want to get yourself out of there.
Yikes! OK. Thanks for the tip! I’ll have to really triple check hotels and stuff.
This is a little overkill, don’t you think? She’s also going to Detroit and Oakland. But I’m sure she’s not playing in the crime-ridden hellhole parts of those cities either.
The Mountain Park Fleet Foxes and Decemberists shows had good turnouts… although I wasn’t looking for tickets on Craigslist so I don’t know what the going rate was.
I am pretty freakin excited that Fiona Apple is doing a show there. Never thought I would get a chance to see her live!
Well I certainly hope that Indianapolis show doesn’t sell out too fast. I’m going to need a bit of time for my wallet to recover. I’ll be really sad if I miss out on tickets
being incredibly inappropriate only works when its actually funny
Where is Willow when we need him…
