Reunited Britpop deities Pulp, looking just as debonair as you’d expect, were the musical guests on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night, and I’m very happy to report that they absolutely slayed. On the show proper, the band played their undisputed stone classic “Common People.” And as a web bonus, they also did a song I haven’t heard in a dog’s age: “Like A Friend,” a relative obscurity that appeared on the Great Expectations soundtrack and on the B-side to “A Little Soul.” Jarvis Cocker remains an absolute wonder of gawky middle-aged charisma and an inspiration to us all. Tuesday mornings can be tough, so you owe it to yourself to watch this one.
Below, we’ve got both performances. And as a special bonus, we’ve also got a clip of the last time the band appeared on Late Night: 1998, when Conan O’Brien hosted and they played the This Is Hardcore song “Party Hard.”
Pulp will perform at Coachella this weekend, and I’m suddenly a little more jealous of everyone who’s going.

You know, I was just thinking of Common People the other day. I’m going to go ahead and call it, the girl from common people never existed.
you’re joking right? he’s explained the tale many a time, she definitely did, though the details were fudged to make them sound lyrically more appealing. some rich eastern euro chick i believe, didn’t study art though i don’t think.
My fav (true) Britpop Anthem of all-time:) (sorry blur and oasis)
As unlikely as it is, I want believe Pulp played “Like a Friend” because The Venture Bros. used it in their season finale.
oh did they?! weirrrd. was a lil disappointed with jarvypoo’s lazy live rendition, but oh well.
Damn, Jarvis Cocker has some long, spindly, strangely attractive fingers.
Wait — Like A Friend is obscure song??? It’s one of the few Pulp songs I’ve EVER heard on the radio or EVER saw on MTV. I’ve always thought it was their best song.
Thom Yorke and Jarvis Cocker are redefining the dance floor.
i am pretty happy to see them back…
i saw so many band trying to sound like them ! :)
Jarvis Cocker is the most attractive gangly, skinny, overly tall middle-aged British man ever.
how dare you slight Morrissey like that. and he used to throw flowers around ontop of it all:)
oh and that ‘Bow-Wee’ guy…
ugh Jarvis Cocker is the greatest frontman of all time
