PERFECT. Thanks much for the heads up!
That Raveonettes song is so excellent. And um, it’s in the opening of “Christmas With The Kranks,” which I saw, but don’t tell anyone outside of the zillion people who read Stereogum.
It’s sort of weird to see how much crossover this mix has with “The OC” Chrismukkah CD that recently came out.
Aw, Scott. Two Flaming Lips song? You’re breaking Mix Tape rule #1: No Repeating!!!
(awesome mix; jew approved!)
> You’re breaking Mix Tape rule #1: No
> Repeating!!!
And it’s a rule to which I strictly adhere.
However, this is not my mix. It’s Morecowbell’s.
anyone have a clue where the sufjan xmas albums can be downloaded/obtained? i was hoping he’d be selling something home-burned at the most recent shows, but no luck…
haha, i know, i know. but i didn’t use regular mix tape rules for this, since it’s a xmas mix
i could have definitely found other tracks (and had some to choose from), but i wanted em both on there, along w/ the 3 sufjan ones.
and not sure, i’ve got burned copies of all 3 though, but not sure if they’re available for purchase any more.
nothing new or remotely interesting here…lame…repeating artists on a mix is a sin regardless of whether it’s a holiday mix or not…step down off your soapbox if you don’t have the means to make an innovative holiday mix…
blow me where the pampers is.
the 1800 people who downloaded it from me in the last week or so beg to differ
Oh maybe those 1800 people haven’t yet jerked off onto the “Maybe This Christmas” series as you seem to have done in this poorly put together shit mix.
meh
Here ya go everybody, you do not need more cowbell, you need more money and more integrity:

interesting, thanks.
i’ve actually never seen those before. some pretty cool stuff on em, some also very shitty (like DMB)
btw, when are you going to tour again, fuck this Yusef shit.
Oh don’t you worry your little folk rock loving head, I will be back with in action just as soon as you shoot your blog in the face.
word.
As a big fan of seventies soul albums, I think a reprise is sometimes called for on a mix tape. This move is definitely not for beginners. If you’re good at making mixtapes, there are no rules, man!
speaking of Christman, we just launched our new site today….www.heraclitussayz.com We got great reviews with the Arcade Fire and the Walkmen up. Check it out and tell me what you think–
Yes, you are an amateur if you repeat songs in a mix. Other than that, this mix exemplifies everything I hate about the boring whiney emo thumbsucking music scene. Can’t wait till it’s dead and forgotton. I’d use your mix CD as a coaster for my eggnog.
I don’t listen to emo. A reprise is typically a slightly different version, not the same thing. That’s why they call it a reprise. A commercial example even you might know is Marvin Gaye’s “Keep Gettin’ it On, which was an bookend to side one. You can replicate that effect by finding songs by the same band with the same vibe or have other similarities. Hash Pipe/that Gwen Stefani Song, for example. It’s just a thing I like to do. Not as much fun as overaggressively beating the straw man that is emo. what’s next? your insightful and controversial point that 2Live Crew weren’t very good rappers?
Now, now, cats and kittens, take it from Mixtape Jesus, you don’t need to hate on repetitive-artist-use, aka RAU, aka the 4th Mixtape Commandment, which, as we all know is “thou shalt not use the same artist twice on a mix tape and your children’s children until the seventy and seventh generation will be put under the ban if you use the same artist a third time on the same mix tape.” It’s all good cuz’ the 4th Mixtape Commandment was part of the Old Law which I died to replace. The New Law, as it applies to mixtapes, allows all sorts of freedoms including, but by no means limited to, using the same artist more than once. So rejoice in Morecowbell’s christmas mixtape and remember to love each other this Christmas. Except for Yo La Tengo, they fucking suck ass.
I agree with Mixtape Jesus.
damn, i appreciate all of the traffic scott, but i might have to take it down until Wed. i’ve done about 30 gigs just today since you linked to me. prior to that only about 35 the rest of the month, haha.
stereogummed is the new slashdotted
pretty cool mix, thanks. hopefully i finish before you take it down.
coldplay are indie? at least use local h’s “have yourself a merry little x-mas” — they are at least indie right now.
Thanks gummer, great tip!!!!! by the way I noticed a post from cat stevens aka ali baba in this thread drumming up sales for Amazon….i thought GW kicked him out of here…….should I notify the authorities?
adi, there’s plenty on there that’s not “indie” really, the Flaming Lips for one
, just thought it was a humorous/ironic title is all.
had to take the files down until Wed, so if you weren’t able to get em, check back Wed night or so.
Geez, people, be grateful the songs were even uploaded for you instead of having Makeout Club sized debates over the indie-ness of the tunes and tired discussions over mix-tape politics. It’s not that serious.
Thanks, solace (and Scott for directing readers there).
Shut up nicole.
Yeah, be greatful that someone put songs for you to steal on the internet, even if they do suck!!! LOLZ! OMGZ! I SAID “SUCK”!!! AND THEY DO!
I agree with those who’ve, well, not been assholes on this board–those thanking solace/morecowbell for posting the tracks in the first place. It’s pretty awful that sharing something, for free, that makes you happy–and, ok, THEY ARE CHRISTMAS SONGS, Christmas being a time of, traditionally, PEACE AND GOODWILL, for christ’s sake–that sharing like that nets such uncalled-for negativity.
And mixtape rules?
You are so silly, cat stevens. So silly.
These songs are like SO awesome! Christmas-themed??? Who would have thought of that? Now I must pull a Joey Ramone ornament out of my ass. Ahh, much better now. Now about these rules of mixes, forget all that horseshit. The bigger crime here is analagous to a 2-for-1 sale at K-Mart. Two of shit is still shit.
the raveonettes!!!
denmark!!!
i just saw them play in copenhagen in september for free. quite the show.
wait, The Flaming Lips are shit? who knew.
That’s cute Max. It’s so hot when you get all rhizztorical.
Just replace the songs you don’t like with others (White Stripes – Candy Cane Children). Aren’t Christmas songs supposed to suck? We only have to hear ‘em a few weeks, mostly for backing up dinner with our grandparents. Even Bing Crosby’ll do…

By the way, after Christmas I will be the DJ at my new year’s party. Does anyone know some theme songs I could play that night?
If you’re in the US and want to do a look back at the year that was, “Killing an Arab” is a good song choice. What else was 2004 about? Hmm. Crunk, Britney Love (not a typo). If I had cable, VH1 could just tell me in countdown format. A little help?
No Holiday mix tape can be complete without “Christmas in Hollis” by Run-DMC.
I’m partial to the Waitresses.

If I could be so bold as to plug our new Christmas album consisting of 17 original songs from lots of new indie bands from all over the world including the Cloud Room, Idaho, Jape and the Very Most. http://www.indiecater.com is where you can listen to it all. We think it?s great but then we are biased and obsessed with Christmas.
In the christmas spirit (years later) i’ve upped this album as I remember it fondly.

Certainly, indicater, you can be that bold. Some may call it shameless self-promotion, but I call it sharing. I do a little bit of “sharing” myself.

Hi, Merry Christmas! I’m back this year with a remake of one of my biggest hits, Black Santa, and a rap edition of You’re Not the Kinda Ho (That Santa had in Mind).
Enjoy!
The song, Black Santa, is an entertaining retro-rap song that tells the story of an African-American male applying for a job as Santa Claus at a department store, and the resistance he encounters in the process.
In 2005, it was spotted at #21 on the download charts at mp3000.net. Now it has been re-mixed and re-released. Here’s a sample:
