Hot on the heels of Oscar night, we have the aforementioned soundtrack tune from LCD Soundsystem (of Your Favorite Album Of 2007, fame), which was commissioned for the forthcoming math-kids-counting-cards-in-Vegas Robert Luketic-directed film 21 starring Kevin Spacey (as a math prof), Kate Bosworth (as a “sexy” math teamer), Laurence Fishburne (the casino’s enforcer), etc. The instrumental section sorta reminds us of Throbbing Gristle’s “Hot On The Heels Of Love,” so our opening cliché isn’t entirely accidental.

That long instrumental intro seems to suggest a chase scene. Or maybe a really bad-ass game of blackjack. Regardless, it rocks, finding LCD in the continual top dance-funk form they located on Sound Of Silver. 21‘s premiering at SXSW on 3/7, with a party celebrating the release of soundtrack set for 3/13. Here’s the tracklist:
01 The Rolling Stones (Soulwax Remix) – “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”
02 MGMT – “Time To Pretend”
03 LCD Soundsystem – “Big Ideas”
04 D. Sardy featuring Liela Moss – “Giant”
05 Amon Tobin – “Always”
06 Peter Bjorn and John – “Young Folks”
07 Junkie XL featuring Electrocute – “Mad Pursuit”
08 Get Shakes – “Sister Self Doubt”
09 The Aliens – “I Am Unknown”
10 Rihanna – “Shut Up And Drive”
11 Knivez Out – “Alright”
12 Domino – “Tropical Moonlight”
13 UNKLE – “Hold My Hand”
14 Mark Ronson featuring Kasabian – “L.S.F. (Lost Souls Forever)”
15 Broadcast – “Tender Buttons”
If you’re into blackjack, mathematics, or Kate Bosworth, you can dig further at the movie’s official site.

What if you’re into Kevin Spacey?
I see the long intro as a slow-motion entry of the math nerds into the casino, Kate Bosworth giving come-hither glances at the camera, whatever harmless male-lead is out front looking confident, giving suave winks to the cocktail waitresses along the way, the entire casino slowly noticing this unstoppable crew.
And when the big voices come in we see our heroes sitting down to the blackjack table! They place their bets, tensions run high, the dealer starts to sweat, LCD pulses in the background while the audience is quivering in anticipation of the next card thrown down on the table. What’s this? Our hero is saying hit me at 18? Insanity! Those big ideas have got him again!
But wait! My lord! The card, it’s a 3! As the chorus of the song and the excellent guitar lick jumps in, the casino erupts in shock and awe! The dealer, flabbergasted, hangs his head in disgrace while our hero rises triumphantly, Kate Bosworth drooling uncontrollably on his arm, and math nerds now rule the world! LCD Soundsysem is their battle cry! Huzzah!
Or probably the song will be the third one played while the credits roll. I hope the ushers cleaning the theater get a kick out of it.
meh
Madonna’s “Justify My Love” reminds me a lot of “HOTHOL,” this song, not so much.
Anybody else have a moment where, when the guitar kicks in, they thought “wait, is this going to segway into Bangers and Mash”?
That is some hot production right there.
That guy in the picture was pretty good as the zombie in “Shaun of the Dead”
Sounds solid. But we need this in mp3 form!
Thanks.

Does LCD remind you of the E-fueled rave music scene of the 90′s?
OMG THIS SONG IS SO GOOD. LCD CAN DO NO WRONG.
OMG TEH BEATZ ARE SICK BEST SONG EVA YO.

Enough about you, Les
Since one of his songs is on the soundtrack, this is probably a good time to mention that Amon Tobin rules. If you’ve never had the pleasure, check out his myspace page or something. Amon Tobin is simply the best electronic recording artist.
Is there no link anymore? Am I missing something?
>Does LCD remind you of the E-fueled rave music scene of the 90′s?
Ummm, yeah. I think that’s actually exactly what it is, in fact. A bit boring IMHO.
Where’s the link?

LCD Soundsystem is what happens when you give an old punk-rocker a computer and synthesizer. I love it.

Nice n funky. The instrumental build-up, though, isn’t as good as ‘Get Innocuous’.
James is my idol
one of the best and most original songs of 2008.
“Does LCD remind you of the E-fueled rave music scene of the 90′s?”
Errr, No. It reminds me of late 70s new wave, in particular Talking Heads.
