Well, that is a pretty fucking awesome lineup.

2. mark  |   Posted on Apr 6th, 2008 0

wait… who the fuck invited Dierks Bentley?

3. Kevo  |   Posted on Apr 6th, 2008 0

This looks like the place to be

4. I wish I could go.

5. oh  |   Posted on Apr 6th, 2008 0

i can’t fucking afford this shit. stereogum, could you please get me a press pass??? just for the day radiohead is playing???

6. The Dan  |   Posted on Apr 6th, 2008 0

Butch Walker will rock your ass off. Don’t miss him if you’re going.

7. bookwibble  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

I like it.

8. Chris Davis  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

It really only lacks MMJ. Already got my ticket.

9. i am just so glad that jack johnson is not on this list that i could skip all the way up to chicago.

10. This is going to be great. Lot’s of amazing Canadian bands!

11. Brian  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

I actually like this band, and think their new album is quite good, but I’m shocked at how Louis XIV Continue to get such high booking on the list of bands at live fests. I mean they are listed above Flogging Molly, Gnarls Barkley, Bloc Party, and a few other big name acts.

But thats a superb line-up. much better than Coachella.

12. slightly underwhelming/terribly expensive

i’ve never seen rage perform before, but didn’t they co-headline a festival last year? are they really that relevant/notable to still be headlining festivals? maybe it’s just me, but this seems like a pretty typical festival line-up, as if put together by spin magazine or perhaps rolling stone.

• Adam  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

You’re giving way to much credit to both those magazines, man. If either of them put together half of that list, I’d have to lend some long-lost respect.

anyway, fucking sick lineup. Definitely going if I can find the money.
and the fact that Rage is back at all makes them relevant to me.

• WHAT  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

is rage relevant!!! are you KIDDING. have you SEEN them live!?!

13. tyler  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

Could it be better? sure, but it’s the best lineup of all the major festivals this year.

14. JM  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

the amount of relevant bands to great bands is very disproportionate for me anyways…if you were to take about 8 bands off that list, it is lame. so i am underwhelmed like the person above…

15. Michael  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

I think it has great headliners, but the rest isn’t very exciting. Its like reading down the list of artists on the iPod of a college kid’s who just got a subscription to SPIN and only takes into account the “Bands You Need to Know” (or whatever they call it these days) articles to “broaden” his musical pallette. If there was a definition for mainstream indie bands, Lollapalooza would be it.

• Trischelle  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

yah, I tots agree with you… it’s a good lineup but nobody i would kill to see except radiohead. I could stand to see some different names on the list!

16. Mike  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

Best major festival lineup I’ve seen yet. I just might have to go to this.

17. Ashrey  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

I agree with Mike about this being the best festival lineup. I cannot freakin wait.

18. Ashrey  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

PS- Much cheaper than Coachella.

19. This is a fantastic line up. Glad to be seeing Rage Against the Machine again. Those guys were amazing at Alpine Valley last year. Hopefully, My Morning Jacket will be added to this later on.

20. Black Keys, Black Kids, *and* Black Lips!

Seriously want to try to go to this, there’s some fantastic live acts there (NIN, Radiohead, SM, Battles, Explosions, Gogol Bordello) plus, Love and Rockets? Time to start saving…

21. I thought it was African-American Keys, Kids, and Lips?

22. t-bone  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

I’m glad to see a good amount of local Chicago acts on the bill

23. LollaBoi  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

Great Line up

Fun young bands and great old ones

Black Keys are sick as are Black Lips
the Postelles are a really good young band
MGMTis amazin
should be good

24. holy shitballs
i wanna give em all my money

25. corey ravens  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

micheal, indies mainstream?

26. OldStyle  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

Between this and Pitchfork Fest, Chicago is the place to be this summer

27. chigonzo  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

Chicago is the best place to be EVERY summer.

28. sas  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2008 0

I second Brian above. Louis XIV? Man, they must have the best publicist ever! Does anyone care that they’ll be there?

Oh, yeah, and then a slot or two down, there’s some band called Gnarls Barkley.

You’ve gotta be shitting me.

Louis XIV sold, like, 50 tickets in my town the last time they played here, a couple months ago.

29. All this & $60. boom.

30. BLOC PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

31. DS48  |   Posted on Apr 8th, 2008 0

Somebody should talk Perry into dropping Louis XIV for My Morning Jacket and Dierks Bentley for The Hold Steady.

32. You’d think that such a high-and-mighty know-it-all like Jim DeRogatis would know that Pepe LePew didn’t “get the girls”!!! Pepe was pretty much a rapist, smart guy.

33. That’s an awesome lineup! With Radiohead, NIN and Kanye West all playing, I don’t think anyone’s going to miss Jack Johnson!

By the way, I’m doing a survey on digital music for a class at MIT. I’m giving $5 free credit on Amie Street to anyone who fills it. Check it out at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=K9zfdPbYagqlxxoUqPWZ6Q_3d_3d

34. Olivia  |   Posted on Apr 8th, 2008 0

I love Lolla so much they can’t really go wrong, but I’d love to see The Hold Steady, The Bird and The Bee, and my fav, Rilo Kiley, at Lolla. But I still cannot contain my excitement.

35. tom  |   Posted on Apr 9th, 2008 0

coachella is looking WAY better and more fun than this. goldfrapp, aphex twin, breeders, dan deacon, fckin portishead, and pretty much every great dance party artists up in there. to me it sounds like eating sushi for the first time after eating chicken nuggets every day of your life.

36. Austin  |   Posted on Apr 9th, 2008 0

If you look at the bands based on a sort of “tier” system, where acts like Radiohead and Kanye are at the top, bands like Bloc Party and The National just below, and artists such as Battles/Grizzly Bear just below that, you’ll realize that the top and bottom tiers are pretty solid, but the middle tier is quite thin. Last year, that middle tier included Spoon, The Hold Steady, MMJ, Modest Mouse, TV on the Radio, LCD, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol, etc. Yet last year’s headliners weren’t as strong. I think it’s a matter of preference.

37. valis  |   Posted on Apr 9th, 2008 0

That’s the wrong Serena for me.

38. I totally agree with the stronger guts of it last year but better headliners this year.. Oh well next year??

39. Kevin  |   Posted on Apr 9th, 2008 0

Not a bad lineup at all, and I agree with a few above who would like to see the Hold Steady.
A lot of overhyped bands here, though, IMO, and this doesn’t even touch Sasquatch! Fest, which I’m surprised no one has mentioned.

• Adam  |   Posted on Apr 11th, 2008 0

The Sasquatch line up is pretty solid, but Lolla’s headliners just blow Sasquatch away. R.E.M., M.I.A, and Modest Mouse don’t really compare to RADIOHEAD (!!!!!!), NIN and Rage.
I guess it’s just a matter of opinion though. and Sasquatch does have the gorge…

• Kevin  |   Posted on Apr 14th, 2008 0

Well, I agree with you that Lolla’s headliners are bigger, but i wouldnt say theyre neccessarily better. Radiohead, sure; but I know I’m not impressed with rage or NIN. And Sasquatch is just more consistently great top to bottom…and then there’s the gorge, like you said…

40. Anthony  |   Posted on Apr 9th, 2008 0

i’m i the only one whos looking forward to seeing Yeasayer?

i saw Tv on the Radio last year and they were amazing, and if you are a fan of tv on the radio and/or saw them last year, you should check out Yeasayer!!!

41. Ashrey  |   Posted on Apr 9th, 2008 0

If you look at the lineup on the Lolla site, Louis XIV is way down the list, between Black Lips and Dr. Dog. I think the placement of them on this list is a bit off.

42. fuck my life. so much money.

43. Ozma  |   Posted on Apr 10th, 2008 0

BATTLES!!
i volunteer so i can go for free, suckersss

44. Zom Beef  |   Posted on Apr 10th, 2008 0

Just saw the Black Keys. Deeee livered.

45. Yeah, between having a CD coming out this spring(? summer?) and having had such a memorable Lollapalooza appearance last year, you’d think they’d be back. Perhaps the organizers felt weirdly about having one act three years in a row.

46. wussyguywhogivescompliments  |   Posted on Apr 11th, 2008 0

unreal line-up

on a side note, i dont know if theres a thread for this, but I havent been on stereogum lately, and I have returned to see it entirely revamped and now sporting its own stereo tv kind of thing, kudos to you guys, i always pull for you over the other blogs

47. polyworm  |   Posted on Apr 13th, 2008 0

guess what happens when you run a search for god on this site?

48. aside from rage, the top end of the line-up looks boring and typical. glad i’m not going. most kids never heard of love and rockets. thats a strange entry. and why do they insist on still calling it lolapalooza? ugh.

49. rob  |   Posted on Apr 14th, 2008 0

this is completely unrelated but indietorrents got shut down… i was wondering if anyone had any invites to waffles.fm or any other sites that they’d be willing to share with me. rrrroooobbbb20@yahoo.com thanks in advance

59. Jimbo  |   Posted on Oct 18th, 2008 0

Nice lineup indeed. Keeps the whole lolla thing going for sure. Great headliners. And enough great “mainstream indie” (whatever the #$@^ that means!) non-headline bands to keep people going “crap, which one do I go to?”

One band missing, and obviously so: Jane’s Addiction.

After FINALLY reuniting in full for the NME’s several months back, there was a lot of speculation that we’d finally see the great Jane’s with Eric back on bass. I guess there’s still time for that, but doesn’t look like it’ll be in time for the palooza.
