A month ago the NYTimes‘s Jon Pareles reviewed Kanye’s Glow In The Dark tour stop at MSG saying “There is a new yardstick for the size of the universe. It is approximately equal to the size of Kanye West’s ego.” Yeah Kanye’s ego’s big — making thousands of kids wait two hours later than an already incredibly scheduled 2:45AM start time is simply the latest lesson in Umm Duh — but no Jon Pareles, it is not the size of the universe. It isn’t even the size of the sun. You know what’s the size of the sun, guys? The fucking sun. The sun is bigger than even your ego could dream to be, Kanye, and the sun won’t wait to rise so you can make sure the section of the stage where you do your sneaker-slide move is properly waxed. And when the sun rises, stuff no longer glows. And also it is no longer dark. Your show doesn’t make sense in those conditions. So Glow In The Dark should probably be performed in the dark. I think I just successfully interviewed to be your new tour manager. You need one. Hire me.

OK, I feel better now. Thing is, I respect Kanye for trying to do something different with this tour. I get that he’s a perfectionist, and was probably making sure the stage was perfectly constructed or something (that’s the benefit of the doubt I gave him while I watched people collapse in drug seizures trying to stay up — seriously). Maybe the mainstage was backed up ’cause Pearl Jam went a little late, they tend to do that. And all the cool visuals on the background screens, the inventive stage shape and use, the up-spits of flame, the song rearrangements, etc. all probably transform, and kill in, an enclosed space. Instead the only thing that died was the concept, and in broad daylight (although “Good Morning” had a cool if unintended effect as the set opener at 4:40). A straight set of jams would have gone down a whole lot better (ala Lolla).

That’s not to say Ye didn’t try — he was totally invested in each dance move, every lyric, and all the sorta cringy interactions with Jane The Spaceship. Just like seeing a band pour their heart out in the rain well past bedtime, of course I had a touch of that special recognition and who-gives-a-fuck-this-is-will-never-happen-again vibe that comes along with the memory in the making. That’s why I just wish he could have deviated from the script, even for like 20 seconds, just at the end, to acknowledge the moment: “Thanks for staying up with me and watching the sunrise” would have been nice. We didn’t even get a proper wave goodbye. I mean come on Kanye, I know not every word you speak up there is necessarily scripted.

Anyway Ye has a strict no photo policy, so I definitely did not take this with my iPhone at 5:25AM:

And all that said — greeting the sunrise with “Good Life”? At least we got a few minutes of awesome.

yeah i was waiting up at the front from 12:45- 1:00 ish AM cause I looked at this as the main event (minus metallicas bad ass performance friday). I stayed there til 5 something in the morning for kanye and the only thing that really went bad is that the sun came up. If they had started on time I bet it would have been 3 times better.

everyone has a right to their opinion you ass. I have seen him 3 times this year and every time he has been a stuck up arrogant dick. Come on, his glow in the dark tour is a joke!!!!!! one guy on stage the entire time. He’s not that great. Not even good. If anyone out there is curious to see his show DON’T. It’ SUCKS. Kanye is soooo self absorbed he probable doesn’t even know what city while touring. He clearly doesn’t give a shit about his fans. I am surely not one and more. He is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Yeah a friend convinced me to stay – now I know why i thought kanye-no-talent-east -west-north-south is a jerk and a fool. He will spend all his money on his ego and be out on a corner in few years with a sign sayin “BIG STAR WILL SIGN ANYTHING FOR CHUMP CHANGE” No one remembers him now. Michael Jackson will do better.

I think the poor guy would get more breaks if he weren’t such a pompous ass who perpetually put his feet in his mouth.

      • Mrs. Jones  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

My oh my, how eloquent. I’m guessing you and Mr. West share more than `an affinity for mediocre beats and sub-par stage performances. Scurry back to “da hood” and let those who were witness to Kanye’s collossal failure cast much deserved judgment.

And for Chrissake, quit skipping school to smoke crack and learn some damn grammar.
It’s hard to take an idiot seriously.

      • Jeannie  |   Posted on Jun 18th, 2008 0

My oh my… you need to take a few zolofts and simmer down. Re-read your post, you sound so ignorant. Untie your lips and speak correct English.

shut up, toby. go pick my cotton

  7. striker  |   Posted on Jun 15th, 2008 0

the show was not only two hours late but was an utter disappointment. all the prerecorded b.s. with his “computer” and the terrible line reading by Kanye exposed him for a arrogant, out-of-touch artiste. Kanye, you owe the tired, disappointed audience an explanation.

  8. smith  |   Posted on Jun 15th, 2008 0

he was two hours late, cut his show short, didn’t once acknowlegde the crowd that waited two hours on an already late show, not even a wave goodbye…. i’m no longer a kanye fan, huge disappointment

  9. shockadow,

don’t you think maybe being a pompous ass is his act? look at how many dipshit white kids are arguing about him on a hipster blog. fact of the matter is, everyone has a bad day (or night). i’ve seen a thousand hipster bands sound like shit and put on horrible shows – it’s part of the live music experience. have you been to any other hip hop shows? they usually sound like utter shit! hip hop in this sense is meant to be showmanship, but at least kanye… ah, forget it. long live vampire weekend. or whatever.

  10. Julie  |   Posted on Jun 15th, 2008 0

I attended Bonnaroo and had an excellent time. I do understand that some acts take a while to set up but not 2 hours. That is a little extreme since Kanye West requested a latter time so he could have his so called light show. He did pitch a fit about it to the Bonnaroo staff so he could get his way. He got his way and he seriously pissed off his very small group of fans there to see him. Every single act that I saw before and after the Kanye show said something about his EGO. Even Chirs Rock said nobody ever in the entire world has an ego as big as Kanye West. So it is not just the pissed off hippies say Kanye West is a Egotistical perfomer but the blacks as well.

  11. Sean  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

Hey Julie, you know Chris Rock is a comedian right? Like, it’s his job to sound off on popular ideas in a funny way. “Kanye = big ego” is not exactly a ground-breaking idea just now reaching “the blacks”.

  12. Brooke  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

druggy losers? haha ok man. first of all, it doesnt even sound like you attened this festival. so you have no right to even be commenting.
with this being said, you did pay the 3oo dollars that we did to see these shows. kanye fucked up my schedule. i could have stayed the entire time for sigur ros. or maybe saw ghostland observatory. but no, i stood in a huge field covered in mud for an hour waiting for kanye. then he came out over 2 hours later and didnt even explain himsel. that is rude whether you experiment with drugs or not.
i liked kanye a lot and still like his music. but no one has the right to do that to fans. so yes i agree. fuck you kanye.

  13. sifn  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

y’all should be honored by his lateness

    • Mrs. Jones  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

If his performance had been worth a shit, I might’ev. His arrogance and blantant prima donna bigotry was not a surprise, but it was a disappointment, Thank God for reliable, talented, kick ass white people like Eddie Veder and Jack Johnson (and SO many more) who made Bonnaroo the best music festival I’ve ever attended. The others rocked so hard that I am easily able to pretend the whole Kanye thing was a bad hallucinogenic-induced dream.

His “star power” can’t fizzle fast enough for me…but we can always hope his tour bus careens off a craggy cliff. ASAP.

      *crossing her fingers*

  14. shaqdiesel  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

that he would even show up to that fake shit.

thank you for making my day sifn. thank you.

  15. is “druggy losers” offensive to the people who stereogum writer clearly stated he watched people “collapse in drug seizures trying to stay up — seriously”. i don’t need to attend some lame outdoor festival to know that drugs are bad. m’kay?

  16. bill  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

…and meanwhile, in The Other Tent, a REAL artist named Talib Kweli was performing a killer set whose stage setup took approximately 10 minutes. My friend and I had agreed that since Talib was a much more valid and exciting show that we’d stay for all of that, then go watch the ass-end of Kanye’s spectacle after it was done. The sad part is that probably half of the people there for Talib’s show left for Kanye’s; when we walked by the main stage, they were nowhere even close to being done.

Way to rob people of a half-hour of REAL hip-hop, guy. I laughed my ass off at every “FUCK KANYE” t-shirt or tag I saw today because he really, really deserves it.

Also, I didn’t do any drugs or even drink enough to get a buzz. Some of us actually went to enjoy some good music.

    • edgar allen bro  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

first off, tip of the hat for recognizing talib, who is all of the talent (and more) of kanye without the bullshit, just raw talent.

second off, the award for first person to fulfill the condescending sober person at music fest role, well done. hate to break it to you, but you can “enjoy good music” while having some drinks and “taking drugs.” if you’re not into it, all the better, but mr. mackey’s lectures are best left in front of 4th graders.

  17. irene  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

Hmmm, I fine all this somewhat interesting. I’ve heard almost nothing but universal praise for Kanye’s Glow In The Dark set, ( I imagine this one was similiar). But when people have waited longer than they want to see it, it becomes ‘disappointing’ or ‘cheesy’ or not ‘real hip hop’.
I guess it’s always how your shaded going into something.
However, wearing a ‘fuck whoever’ t-shirt iis an amateur act of defiance (but you think you’re such a rebel, right?). All I have to say is, we’re yoiu forced to stay there and wait for Kanye? Because when I get tired of waiting for someone to perform, I just fucking leave the place. But I don’t know, I’m just not that innovative when it comes to reacting to things like that ( I hear that’s what alot of people do too).
If you stayed there and waited for him despite all yo’reoutrage, I’m sorry but that says more than a silly ‘fuck you’ chant or t-shirt. Seriously.

    • Thomas  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

Irene, I was way up in the front for Kanye and I would have gladly left sooner if there weren’t 50,000 to wade through behind me. We left Sigur Ros, who was killing it, to go see Kanye. What bugs me about him is that he pretends to be so “real.” In other words, he wants his fans to think of him as an everyday person. So I’ll treat him just like an everyday person and say that it’s really fucking rude to leave people who paid good money to see you have to wait two additional hours to see your set. And like many people have said, he didn’t address the issue for shit. He pulled a dick move and didn’t even apologize. I know lots of people raise Kanye up on a platform because he’s so “great,” but let me tell you this: I saw so many better bands who just got on stage, played their music and got the job done. That is admirable behvaior. Kanye’s was simply not.

  18. Morgan  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

We (unfortunately) ducked out of Ghostland Observatory to wander over and see what Kanye was bringing… well, after 45 minutes, nothing. So we went back to The Other Tent for Chali 2na from J5, whose “special guest” was Galactic. Man put on a hell of a show and gave mad love for Bonnaroo and the fans.

  19. Jami  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

LMAO to whoever called this guy a “showman.” This guy only cares about one person. Himself. He deserves all the “Fuck Kanye” chants and shirts that went around over the weekend.

    • that’s funny, jami. do you know the guy? spent enough time with him on a personal level to know how self-conceited he is? why is he NOT a showman? he entertains us with his arrogance on stage (at awards shows, “bush hates black people”), sold a shit load of albums, so people must like his music… his set may have been 2 hours late (possibly someone else’s fault other than his?), but i bet it was crowded as shit. you’re probably one of those people who watches SAW IV and then complains about violence in the media. Think of Kanye like your TV and change the damn channel if you don’t like it.

This post paid for by the ACLU.

      • Alex  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

Yeah Kanye’s show was crowded. At 2:30 when he was supposed to go on. Hell, it was crowded at 3 when we wandered over after being awed by the majestic beauty of Sigur Ros. We were ready to dance, ready to party, ready to have a great fucking time. But no, at 4:29 when he finally came on, the crowd had thinned considerably and did not even begin to stretch to the back of the field. Halfway, tops.

And nobody here is ripping Kanye for his music. It was good sure. But he didn’t play his whole set. He didn’t acknowledge the crowd in any way for taking 2 hours of their precious time, which could have been used either for watching other music or sleeping (which is pretty much impossible after 9 am because of the heat). And he finished his “Glow in the Dark Show” after sunrise. So what exactly are you defending here?

The musicians who play Bonnaroo know that it is special place. They pour their hearts out for these fans. Ask Jim James, Eddie Vedder, Robert Plant, the list goes on and on. A true showman respects their fans and then delivers the goods. Don’t tell me Kanye hit on either of these Sunday morning.

  20. Jess  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

It sounds like everyone who was actually at the show is disappointed and angry and not ready to defend Kanye and his ego. It is something you would not be able to understand unless you actually waited it out. I’m at work right now about to pass out at my desk because I am still trying to catch up on the sleep I lost because of that asshole. Of course you aren’t going to just walk away from something after you have been sitting there waiting for two hours. We had no way at all of knowing what time he was going to come on. We kept getting mixed delays from the screens on the side of the stage…first it was delayed until 3:15, then 3:30, which I would have just been fine with. I started getting pissed when the screen switched to “Kanye West Up Next” because they knew his bullshit was going to take another hour and a half and did not inform us because Kanye has a big ego and they didn’t want people to walk away before his show started.
The festival organizers and Kanye’s tour managers are all to blame in this situation. Clearly there was a hugely inadequate amount of communication in this situation that ruined the $250 festival for thousands and thousands of people. Like Robert Randolph did, I say Fuck Kanye. I also say fuck the clowns that are in charge of A/C Entertainment and Superfly Productions. You will not be getting any more of my money.

  21. Vince  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

You really would have to be there to understand how terrible it was. I love Kanye and I love Bonnaroo. And I love late night sets. And I even loved the opening of the show. This was ridiculous though. Everyone at Bonnaroo loves late night sets and everyone is in a good mood and will be understanding when shit happens. This was just wrong on a whole other level though. This will go down as the biggest disaster in Bonnaroo history

  22. Nicole  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

I understandably would be pissed as well for paying lots of money (gas money) to see someone show up 2 hours late after throwing a hissy fit for wanting a different start time. Just out of curiousity isn’t it still dark at 9:45? I think so. Sounds like he has Mariah Carey syndrome….’let me show up when I feel like and not give a F—to the people who made me rich in the first place’. I personally have never been a fan of his, when he was a part of a festival 3 years ago I opted not to see him after he was past his 1 1/2 start time. So I’ve been anti-Kanye ever since. Maybe one day he’ll learn he isn’t Michael Jackson or Elvis or whoever. As just as fast as you rose to the top you can fall and hit the bottom even quicker.

  23. After seeing Kanye at Street Scene in San Diego…there is no way in hell I would have even wanted to see his show…I was all about Kanye but, he makes an ass out of himself everywhere he goes. I am sorry for all of you that went through that… I got to see Snoop at the Street Scene as well…GREAT SHOW…so if at Rothbury check it out

  24. Mike C  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

This is a comment to every one that booed Kanye and are saying that he sucks. You are a buch of faggot-ass pussies that do not understand shit about hip-hop. How dare you say that Kanye was terrible and booed him and saying that he sucks. So what if his performance was delayed. Big deal, stop your bitching. You better respect Kanye for all the hard work he has put into his music. He’s one of the best right now in hip-hop. Whoever still says that Kanye sucks is a faggot-ass pussy who doesn’t know shit and is an ignorant fucker. What do you have to say about that, you haters?

    • buns  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

Real tough on the internet aren’t you hard-ass? If you said any of that homo-phobic shit anywhere around me I would END YOU. And yes, Kanye west is a bad rapper and shittier person.

    • anna d  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

personally i think your boy kanye is gay which is great but i wish he would just come out of the closet , he just needed more time to get dolled up and apply the makeup.
by the way i’m a lesbian with amazing gaydor!!!!

Truthly you need to leave Kanye the hell alone. Did he not just lose his mother? What is wrong with you people? Can’t anyone have a bad time and not get lenched for it? Yeah cause we know that all of you haters are sooooooooo perfect right, never done anything wrong in your life time! You never fucked up right? Please! There are NO perfect people out in the world. Do you think everything you want, is going to be giving to you on a plater? Reailty check!

    • buns  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

“lenched”? learn how to spell. Your shitty education is making your shitty point that much shittier.

  28. John  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

You can’t outright blame Kanye West for the delays….these shows are difficult enough to juggle around acts and timing can be bad at times.

However my one question is this: What in hell is a hip hop “artist” doing at a concert like this? That’s like having Tiny Tim warm up for Queensryche.

  29. chad  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

Bonnaroo sold out years ago in my mind. That is why I stopped going after 2003. Kayne has no business at Bonnaroo and same with metallica. I’ll stick to the smaller festivals that are still under the radar. And yes, Fuck Kayne!

  30. Twiggy  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

WTF!! I saw the concert in LA and it was fabulous!!! Kanye Haters!!!!!!! If you dont like him why waste ur time making bad comments about him. Everybody has bad times and obviously him comin on stage late wasnt his fault. Be happy you got a show and shut the hell up. Dumbass lowlife people. He still makin Millions even if yall dont like him. And u fuckin racists ass people need to grow the hell up and just admit u wish u was black. Cant nobody do it better lets be real.

    • You are a no talent jerk who just wants to say you were at a show in LA. Who cares. Go home. Go stand around the Staples center and cry for Kobe. You probably try to make every scene. You’re so vain, you probably think this mail is about you.

      • Twiggy  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

LMAO!! I am at home dumbass!! Dont hate you wish you lived in LA!!!! And I fuckin hate that Lakers every person thats from LA is not a laker fan shit face! LORENZO WISHES HE WAS FROM LA!!!!!!! You probably wouldnt last a week in LA. No other states besides Georgia and Florida are on California level. No style! no looks! no good performances!!!!!!!! HA!

  31. THE KANYE SHOW WAS MY FAVORITE SHOW OF THE WEEKEND,!!!! despite the fact the he had to cut it short. No one has ever played a late night show on that main stage, and no one at Bonnaroo has ever played that late. You should think of it as a treat for those lucky few that actually stayed. The lights and the performance had me stunned. If you were bored there was plenty of music going on else where. It was a little bad that they had Phil and Friends wrap up early. Despite what you fuckers say, KANYE”S SHOW WAS THE BEST FUCKING SHOW OF THE WEEKEND!!!!

    • summer  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

I agree! Amazing, the whole weekend!

    • Morgan  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

“No one at Bonnaroo has ever played a show that late”?

Um, Disco Biscuits rocked the crowd well into the morning Saturday…

    • vickie k  |   Posted on Jun 26th, 2008 0

uh. are you kidding me? the best show that weekend? awesome light show? you obviously were not there, seriously delusional or on drugs. the show was absolutely a let-down and horrible. the ‘light show’ became non-existent as the sun rose after 2 songs and daylight broke out. kanye just looked like a total fool on stage as he danced by himself on a terrible looking platform with a broken screen in the background.

  32. Sugar Kayne  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

I am trying hard to feel sorry for anyone that would stay up that late to listen to Kayne West but I just can’t do it. He did give you two hours to take the hint. Kayne should change his tour name to “Light can’t escape me” because he sucks harder than a black hole.

  33. Talk about dick-sucking… check out ARJAYY.
Apart from his beats Kanye sucks – just another money grubbing music whore… Fashion… Lights… I do my dance for the white people… REAL hip-hop – HA!

  34. DJ Dave  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

If you are going to do a show at a certain time , you should be on time . A little late may be ok, but two hours, come on! that’s ridiculous. I’m a big hip hop fan and have seen some of his show’s . I was not impressed at all . He really sucks . I didn’t go to Bonnaroo ,but I can see where fan’s are coming from about his performance and his arrogance. He’s really not that talented , he just thinks he is and has convinced so many people that he is talented. I’m not into phony hip-hop . Apparently you don’t know hip-hop very well if you think Kanye West is real hip-hop. Take a good long listen to his so called real hip-hop. He really sucks Bad! What an IDIOT, he has my vote for IDIOT OF THE YEAR.

  35. dumbenoughtowait  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

Come on now…Kanye should know there is no negro american awake at 5am to watch another black man bounce around stage with some glowing rods. In fact, while all the people that did wait around, I saw 5 crack heads raiding the empty tents.

    • Vince  |   Posted on Jun 18th, 2008 0

Actually my tent did in fact get raided while it was going on. Mine and my girlfriends shit got stolen. All they got was a bunch of fucking dirty clothes and heartburn medicine. My fourth year in a row and thats the first time i’ve even heard of that happening

I personally waited for his show, while in the pit mind you. I’ve been involved in theater productions and i don’t pass blame on to Mr West for the delay. Clearly you could see his stage and the TV screen took much time to fix/ assemble. What was most insulting was the absence of an apology or an acknowledgment from Kayne to the crowd that stayed and waited on his ass. instead he hid in the script of his show. If he had come out and said “hey bonnaroo, sorry for the wait, but lets party through sunrise,” the crowds/fan would have been much more forgiving.

Kanye equals the new Axl Rose!?!?!? Refusing to do shows on time is the first step to Axl Rose syndrome. LOL The next step is he will leave rans high and drive and say fuck the show and not do it at all with a last second change. Most people remember what Axl did and how it killed Guns N Roses is Kanye next???

    • Mrs. Jones  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

      Is he next?
Kanye West is already dead to me, my friend.
And I know that I am not alone.
And that makes me smile smugly.

I’m sorry , I love Kanye and his music but there is no excuse for being THAT late. I wasnt there but if I had of been I’d be PISSED right now. And for those of you trying to bring black vs. white, hip hop vs. rock into ..STOP. I’m black but that was wrong. He could have a least apologized. And for those of you who say “they could have just left” ..that’s easy for you to say.. IF I had paid $300.00 of my hard earned money with gas prices as high as they are to be put on hold for 3 hrs and then on top of that the show was cut short, I doubt I would have left as a Kanye fan.

All that being said .. do keep in mind the man’s mom just died. He’s probably not at his best right now.. cut him a little slack.

  40. Leslie  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

It definitely seems to me that most people making remarks about “haters” weren’t even there. It was completely ridiculous. I thought Kanye would start at 2:45 as planned, but was really intent on watching Ghostland Observatory who were scheduled to start at the same time. They gave the best performance and light show, HANDS DOWN, of the entire festival. Their set ended a little after 4…and what do we all hear after exiting the tent? Dead silence. I finally make it to the front of the Kanye crowd and people are tripping balls and/or drunk and really fucking angry. And what does he finally give us when he magically appears onstage after 4:30 in the fucking morning? A lame ass video screen, a cheap looking platform, a tired ass monologue with an annoying robot, and a single shot of pyro during a song that I can’t even remember. And him. His tiny ass all alone on that GIGANTIC stage, with no room to breathe save for the ego he brought that managed to suck all the positive late night energy out of the air. I only waited for 30 minutes, but I can’t imagine having the energy to stand in a crowd of smelly abandon for 2 whole hours. People are rightfully angry. Don’t judge unless you were there.

  41. Meg  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

Kanye has always been on my “people I will punch in the face if I ever meet them in real life” list. Give me a break. In 5 years, no one will even know who the hell Kanye West is.

    Kanye HATES hippie people!!
    Kanye HATES hippie people!!
    Kanye HATES hippie people!!
    Kanye HATES hippie people!!

  43. I’ll tell all you guys why Kanye showed up late. He was in ATLANTA for the Hip-Hop version of Bonaroo, BIRTHDAY BASH 13, the biggest hip hop show in the country. OF COURSE it made more sense for him to be there and perfom than Bonaroo, sorry. HE BLEW THE ROOF OFF PHILLIPS ARENA, sorry you Bonaroo goers got an ENCORE PERFORMANCE! peace.

  44. xe  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

ok seriously ,if you weren’t there…standing on your feet for 4 hours straight in a crowd so packed you couldn’t even move..anticipating an amazing show…and all you got was a cocky unapologetic son of a bitch giving a half hearted performance , and only performing HALF of a set..(this was supposed to be a 2 hour set )…you cant talk shit. this asshole didn’t even apologize, greet ,or say goodbye to the audience..and im almost positive he was lip syncing some songs..i was a pretty big kanye fan before this and i was really excited to see him live because i heard he was supposed to be amazing..but instead of seeing kanye on the stage ..all i saw was his giant ego. i have no respect for the guy..in fact im completely disgusted by his behavior ..there isnt a single person that was in that audience that will ever think of him and his music the same way.. why should we respect him when he has absolutely no respect for his fans . the one and only disappointment of bonnaroo..every other artist was amazing…better live than on their record and so friendly and appreciative to be there.kanye’s no artist..just a walking ego.

    • brandon  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

I doubt the “fuck Kanye ” crowd would have listed or gave a shit about what he had to say. The crowd was being shitty, so he fulfilled his obligation to the festival and left. I’m sure his actual shows are different. you cant really expect him to be too passionate about a crowd of people chanting against him at a festival that he is apparently not talented enough for

  45. TheTruth  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

MEG shut the hell up!! You will never punch Kanye in the face. Get real! You dont even kno him personally. How can u judge someone and never even fuckin met him in person before? SAM Snoop Dog is fuckin wack so i dont even kno why u brought him up. CAPTA ur just a fuckin idiot point blank. 47. Stupid Bitches  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

Wow guys, if any of you there paid fucking attention you would have known that, a member of one of the other bands that had just finished had a heart attack. Kanye was one of the people around him when it happened and felt obligated to stay with him until he was safely at a hospital. Kanye is anything but egotistical, especially after he did something like this. He was not supposed to mention this to anyone, which is why he didn’t apologize for anything because he didn’t have to. And to those that say Kanye will fall hard just like his quick rise, YOUR FUCKING DUMBSHITS. Kanye is making some of the best music there is, and puts everything he has into each and every song. I don’t think he is going to stop making good music anytime soon. As far as I am concerned you guys are the selfish shits for not being able to wait a little longer to hear the best musician of our time. Too bad you guys are too fucking stupid to realize Kanye loves performing and WANTS the crowd to be pleased. Stop acting like he was sitting on his ass behind the curtain playing X-BOX. You inconsiderate fucks.

    • TheTruth  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

Thank You STUPID BITCHES for puttin that out there. I hope all you people feel fuckin stupid. Just like I said before if you aint never met someone personally never judge them. Ive seen Kanye perform a couple times and won tickets to meet him personally and not once did i feel disrepected or not appreciated. Believe it or not he does really care about his fans. So quick to talk shit about something yall dont know shit about.

IT WAS A CONCERT. SHIT HAPPENS. WE’RE ALL ALIVE! LIFE GOES ON!

      PEACE TO ALL.
It’s funny, ’cause quite honestly, I’m not really a “fan” of Kanye West. I do, however consider myself to be a lover all music, all generes. I was simply logging onto check my email on Yahoo, and so the music headline about The Bonnaroo Festival, and felt inclined to reply, and WOW!
      Consider this:
      Daily soaring gas prices
      The War
      The Economy
Natural Disasters daily broadcast in the news
MAY WE ALL FIND SOMETHING, TO BE THANKFUL FOR.

  48. Al  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

    Hello John,

I understand your grief about Kanye?s West late appearance at the Bonnarroo show. In addition, I feel sorry for all the people who spent their money to see Mr. West, although other performers played live.

Based on West?s videos, I used to have a different view about him because of his style, and the way he comes across in his music; however, it was wrong for him not to have given any explanation or excuse on why he was late. The West?s spokes persons did not even comment. To make matters worse, he caused other performers to play at ridiculous unscheduled times because of his lateness. I guess this goes to show that he does not care about his fans. I am no big fan of his, but if all his fans felt the way that I do now?and I did not even watch or attend the concert?he would be flipping burgers at Burger King some place because I would not buy any of his records ever again! I do not like the man anymore because of that. I read the whole incidence on Yahoo.com

I know my opinion does not matter, but my point of view about him will be like this forever. Now that is f__ked up!…. : /

    Al from Baltimore, MD

  49. what an asshole.

So are you saying it took 2+ hours for an ambulance to come, or that Kanye actually went to the ER with him and waited for his condition to be stabilized? My 5 yr old nephew makes up better stories than you.

  52. summer  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

You spelled Metallica wrong. Bonnaroo did not sell out. And I’m too nice to say anything else.

  54. Lindsay  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

seriously, that was the worst set of the whole weekend. i think all rooers will agree, “kanye sucks”.

  55. mike  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

Seriously I was there for the entire weekend and did zero drugs and drank nothing. I waited to see someone I didn’t like anyways after seeing Sigur Ros (which was amazing). And I sat and sat and sat. There is no fucking excuse for what Kanye did. He is not a showman or even a marginally talented artist. He needs to learn from people like Robert Randolph and B.B. King. He’s not number one and never will be. He should do what he did at the Grammies and pray to his mom FOR FORGIVENESS for being such a pompous asshole.

    • SMH  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

I understand that everybody is entitled to their own opinion but bringing Kanye West deceased mother in this is just wrong. I have been to a few of his shows and ive met him in person and he really does truely care about his fans. Everytime I seen him he performed with so much passion and energy. Have you guys ever thought maybe he is still mourning over his mom? She was like his best friend. And his engagement just ended. He’s not superman everything cant be perfect and he cant make everybody happy. I have a lot of respect for this man. Because even with all thats going on in his life he is still traveling the world to make his fans happy. If my mom died I wouldnt know what to do. And for you people that went to Bonnaroo and had the nerve to expect to get an apology from him after you guys disrespected his stage set up are just ridiculous and need a wake up call. You give respect to recieve it. But regardless if you guys hate him and will never be a “fan” again he will still make millions. He’s one of the few good rappers still around. But obviously you guys werent true fans anyway because it should never be this easy to turn on someone.

      • mike  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

In my response to my first comment. I must say I do apologize for what I said. It was very offensive and I am sorry. Nonetheless he could have done something for the crowd.

      • William  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

Well I was there and the thing is if he had made any attempt to apologize to the audience it wouldn’t have mattered. I was a fan of his in the first place but i was hoping to see a good show. Even for a performer, a two and a half hour late start on your recently changed performance time is inexcusable.

      • XYX  |   Posted on Nov 18th, 2008 0

Kanye west is a sucky ass perfomer to make people wait without apologizing. Good showmanship is all about pleasing the crowd. If the crowd is not pleased then you suck. Also, it’s not hard to see that he’s got a big ego. His mom probably wanted to die just so she wouldn’t have to put up with his bs and his fiancee prolly just found someone who has a decently sized package and doesn’t need to compensate. As for the black white ghetto bs…who honestly cares. I live in a fuckin ghetto and am more literate then you shitheads. So you listen to one tupac album and think you can talk hood. If you wanna be hood talk with your hands and feet not your mouth.

  56. Nigel  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

After reading what unfolded at Bonnaroo with Kanye’s performance–not to mention his alleged “supporters’” churlish insults above–I can honestly say I will never support him as an artist ever again. He disgraced himself and the festival as a whole for numerous reasons and, in the end, never even acknowledged, let alone apologized, for his shameful deeds.

He not only messed with the schedule line-up for his own set (very pig-headed in the professional music industry), but his stage crew took an incredibly unnecessary amount of time to set up the stage. In the end, the purpose was defeated for the set, as the glow of morning overtook the glow of the special lighting effects. Keeping people up on such short of notice, fooling them by a grossly delayed set is not professional music. Its a sham and it SHOULD be booed. Concertgoers have been rockin’ out all day long and to expect them to be physically and cognitively capable of even enjoying Kanye’s set after such delays and at such an hour is simply stupid.

Finally, Kanye, you’re some decent pop artist who will fade away within a few years. If you think this kind of boorish behavior is your God-given-right, then, please, let me be the first to say, “Kanye sucks.”

    Best,
    Nigel

  57. brandon  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

From what i hear it took an extra hour for pearl jam to get off the stage and i also don’t believe that kanye was putting up the sets so lets not blame him personally. granted the delay was far too long, the bonnaroo officials handled the matter like incompetent fools.

Finally, I don’t think Kanye needs to come out and embrace the crowd who was chanting “kanye sucks.” I’m not sure why he’s supposed to show so much class and etiquette when the crowd showed none.

  58. Mary  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 0

As we waited we commented, “Wow, look at this big set they are putting together! This is going to be interesting.” We even felt bad as someone hurled a glow stick and it damaged the screen; then when he started with this whole theatrical spaceship production 2 hours late… we were just too stunned for words. The Flaming Lips did a spaceship on the smaller stage that was 1000 times more complicated than yours and nailed it last year. Despite the shock and confusion of what Kanye was working so hard to do up there, I can say thank you because it was definitely the hardest laugh I have had in a long time!

Advice to Kanye- Immediately fire whatever “yes men” told you that this was a great concept. I would have respected you much more if you had just broke that strange spaceman character, decided to forget the stage setup, and went out there and performed without it. You would have been praised for your showmanship instead of now being hailed as the man that caused 50000 hippies to come unglued.

  59. i guarantee any of the actual good artists at bonnaroo (which is most of them) would have apologized or at least said something. I didn’t blame Kanye personally for the set-up delay, but to have a sloppy show based around a pre-recorded track just sucked major balls. clearly he really needs special efects and light shows to impress an audience, yet he still failed this time.

i love how he looked like an idiot all alone on stage as the sun rose and everyone just walked away.

plus i spent 20 bucks to roll at his show for pretty much nothing. i feel bad for the guys dosing behind me at 2:30 haha. idiots

I believe this is what happens when you give away Grammy’s to people who haven’t really earned it !!

  61. Ray  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

It’s about time people realize what a stuck up, “my shit don’t stink” asshole this guy really is. Everyone forget the arrogant cocky comments and (once again) act like an ass attitude this jerk had at the music award”s?? STOP BUYING HIS CRAP AND CD”S!!! That’s the only way you teach somone like this a lesson!! You hit them where it hurts, and that is their bloated ego stuffed wallet!! His set was up well over an hour before he decided to grace everyone with his presense!!
Does the world forget another asshole, Axl Rose????
These people get filthy rich off of our hard earned money and how quick they forget the ones that gave them their mansions, cars, money and pin-up girlfriends that wouldn’t give them a second glance if they were just another shmoe!!!
For you Brian, Guns n Roses sold more albums than Kayne will ever think about selling. Where is Axl Rose now?? Exactly. So don’t sit and think that album sales make the man or the band. That’s just being really nieve. Piss off your fans and away go’s your popularity. Stupid move on his part by not saying something to the fans. Although I doubt by that point it would’ve made a difference that night, it would’ve made a huge difference down the road.
I have to agree, FUCK KAYNE!!!

  62. palestrina  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

Whoever this Kayne is I only have one word for him –YOUR MUSIC SUCKS BIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      C) fucking hillarious
I will just assume it is C.

  63. Ray  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

    A MEN!!

  64. Whoever keeps bringing up his mom’s death to justify his inexcusable behavior is a Kanye fanboy who really needs to find a new hero. Come on, she died what, over six months ago (if I’m not mistaken)?! It’s not like it was last week. And even if it had been, that’s still not a valid reason for what he did. Fucking Brett Favre’s dad dies on a Sunday and the VERY NEXT NIGHT he plays the game of his life on MNF. Stop making excuses for this punk’s attitude.

    • SMH  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

First off I feel sorry for your mother cuz when she die your going to forget all about her ass. What kind of person are you? And everybody takes death in different ways. And dont nobody give a shit about Brett Favre….this is about Kanye. If my mom died suddenly i wouldnt give a damn if its 1 year later im still going to be mourning over her cuz i love her “THATS MY MOTHER”. Your an ass!! Fuckin moron! And nobody said anything about him being my hero u stupid fuck. Ive actually met him in person which most of you havent so I know how the man really is. Nobodies perfect. A Black man screws up and yall quick to chew him up. Just like with Obama cant stand to see a Black Man successful.

      • Where to even begin? Well, it’s nice of you to play the race card. But, as you’ll recall, James “Buster” Douglas’s mom died right before his fight with Tyson, and he was able to use that emotion to defeat Iron Mike (even though there’s some controversy as to whether Tyson actually knocked Douglas out). So don’t tell me Kanye can’t suck it up and play a fucking concert on time (which he did in London right after she died, btw!) And what, giving Kanye a blowjob qualifies you to say you know the man?

        • SMH  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

Your a moron just like i said before!!! Lets see how you act when your mother dies. I hope people tell your ass to suck that shit up. And yes I did pull the race card because most of the mutha fuckas on here are WHITE and dont know shit about hip hop. Just another opportunity to talk about “A NIGGA.” So kiss my ass you stupid bitch! You need to stick to sports which you seem to know more about and leave music to people that actually know a little something.

          PEACE BITCH!!!!

          • What does my or anyone else’s knowledge of hip-hop have to do with this? Does Kanye being “a nigga” excuse his tardiness without a simple apology to the people who waited to see him? If you’d take a minute to read the thread on Josh Homme you’d see that all these same “white mutha fuckas” are bashing him for his behavior at a show in Norway. So call yourself a waambulance and get treated for the KanyAIDS in your system.

      • Mrs. Jones  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

        You’re an A-class moron.
Kanye is an A-class word that rhymes with bigger.
        Figure that one out, genuis.

  65. Well his show was mediocre but probably would have been better had the SUN not come up. I didn’t like him to begin with and his two and a half hour tardiness didn’t make my opinion of him any better. Sure his mom died but that wasn’t why he was late to perform. I also think I saw somebody comment that someone from the act before him which was Pearl Jam had a heart attack, this is not true I was there. They would have told the crowd. I was there, so anyone like me knows that that was a terrible fabrication. His late arrival wasn’t really what pissed me off the most. He refused to go on stage until he was the only act playing. He bitched and bitched until they made Phil Lesh (who by the way was one of the founders of Bonnaroo) leave the stage 45 minutes before his set was over. Its obvious he will not be invited back to play and it is probably for the better. Anyone he doesn’t think he’s pompous EGOMANIAC is an idiot. I like hiphop and just about any other type of music as well so if your going to reply to my comment please do not take that dumb route.

  66. i was in the front row in the pit and all i have to say is…

mad props to the guy who broke his screen

  67. Aaron Smith  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

If you Hate Kanye west for that you are an idiot he tries his hardest in every performance and you should not be booing west you should be booing the organizers of the bonnaroo for doing a terrible job. Besides the glow in the dark tour is awesome

  68. Dave W.  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

Kanye West is highly over-rated. I have always thought he was lame as a performer, artist , and had a bad attitude. His boring show really confirmed it.
    KANYE SUX,,,,,KANYE SUX,,,,,KANYE SUX,,,,

  69. Abby  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

Ok so I was stoked on seeing Kanye. Not gonna lie. My friends and I posted up for the two fucking hours before he came on stage. I think it is both parties’ faults – Kanye DEF should have acknowledged and thanked the fans that did stick around for him to show. There is absolutely no fucking excuse that he couldn’t stop talking to “Jane” for 25 seconds and say “Hey guys, thanks for waiting for me. Sorry I was late”. But no, he is too much of a self-absorbed dick to even do that. The fact that the festival people didn’t notify us, (ok so we got updated until 3:30 and then jack shit for basically another hr), is also a faux pas. Would have been nice for SOMEONE to step up and say – sorry we are behind schedule. Kanye should have done it regardless. To top things off, he sounded shitty. Be honest with yourselves people…. his sound was NOT up to par with the rest of the acts, and maybe it would have sounded better if it wasn’t an empty field by the time he came on. . . just a thought. Regardless, I am boycotting Kanye now. He came to a hippie fest, which isn’t his genre anyways, and then he fucked the remaining fans over by not even saying a simple “Thank You”. Kanye, check your fucking self. You are NOT the shit!

  70. Jon C  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

Kanye West didn’t even acknowledge the crowd…that’s pretty shitty after making them stand for 2 hours. The guy’s ego is through the roof. Not only did disappoint thousands of people, he also offset the whole day Sunday. Bands set to play on That Stage couldn’t, cause the poor underpaid workers there couldn’t clean the field in time.

Bonnaroovians aren’t the kind of people that want or need to deal with the shittyness Kanye West provided them with. We deserve better.

    Kanye West wrecked Bonnaroo.

  71. BRoo  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

I know i yelled my share of ‘Kanye Sucks’ because he is a piece of shit! he should never had been at Bonnaroo in the first place. Playing Bonnaroo is a privelage and an honor of the highest degree and he spit in all of our faces. His sorry act wasn’t a disappointment because i expected nothing from this mtv performer. I hope Bonnaroo learned a lesson from this fake ass rapper, keep mainstream out. Kanye will always be a piece of shit, a hack, a wanna be star. he needs to leave the entertaining to the bands that do it for fun and not the $.. Trust me he didn’t ruin any part of my Bonnaroo, i enjoyed the hell out of yelling ‘Kanye Sucks’ at the Robert Randolph show Sunday.

  72. Matt LaRue  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

Pretty much all of you are as big as dumbasses as Kanye West is. Each and everyone of you put money in his pocket by going to Bonnaroo! This festival represents everything that the jam scene is against. I think it is funny that you thought it was cool to boo him off the stage, what a rush!! Fucking losers!!

  73. malarue  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

Personally, I feel that all of you are bigger dumbasses than Kanye West. You actually paid to see him. It cost him nothing to fuck you over. Bonnaroo represents everything the jam scene is against. You fucking rookies are a couple years late!

  74. Mippet  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

Does anyone have any information or an opinion on the rumour that he was actually in Atlanta at 2am playing gig for a radio station? It’s posted on the Bonnaroo messageboard…..even has a link to the radio station.

“fuck you mr. west” said my friends chest in permanent marker at bonnaroo… never seen so many people agree …. kanye west had me wait till the sun came up and he sucked even when he finally made it to the stage, what a surprise

hmm I saw him in concert I think a month ago , it really blew me away. beyond what I expected…..and its pretty good for an American artist (im american btw) other than Prince. YES i’ve seen better outside of the U.s. and he has yet to devirginize Americans ears…anway… …Kanye’s efforts to put on a pretty good show when I saw him did not go unnoticed …so don’t take him for granted …hes exposing, and infusing sounds most people rarely care to listen to. especially within the hiphop rap genre which is dying ….peace

I was there. I was struggling to stay awake after three days of nonstop partying. I was exhausted, dehydrated, thoroughly intoxicated and fantasticly run down. I was on my 14th and last wind. I’m not even kidding. I made a bold choice to check out Kanye, because there’s only a short window of time at Bonnaroo where it is possible to sleep, and that is from midnight to 9AM. At 9, the oppressively hot tennessee sun heats your tent to over 100 degrees, and you either wake up or broil to death in your own juices. Sure, you can take a catnap under a shade tree, but quick fixes like that just run your overall sleep debt even higher.

I was also completely gross… I had just passed some really nasty veggie curry dishes through my bowels in some equally disgusting port-o-johns, but it might have been beer shits too. My clothes were still sticky from the combination of sweat and rain that was pervasive through the place last weekend. I had blisters on my feet where my sandals were rubbing me the wrong way, so it hurt to walk or dance, but I did not let that slow me down. I had to work to convince my companions to join me at Kanye… they did not want to go, they were having more fun dancing around with the hippies on the grass at phil lesh and friends. They took a leap of faith and followed me. They were, oh what’s the word, SMART! I was stupid… I thought there was going to be a crazy awesome show with lasers and lights and shit, and I thoroughly needed one after enduring the languid Jack Johnson and the decent-but-pretty-much-what-I-expected efforts of Pearl Jam. Anyway, I got there right on time, at 2:45 AM, and I waited an hour for that son of a whore Kanye West to do his thing… instead I watched a crew build a set for an hour. By 4 AM I realized that this wasn’t going to happen until sunrise, and we should cut our losses and run. But it was too late, the bad vibe was pervasive throughout the entire festival, and the consequences of Kanye’s fucking BS reached farther and deeper into the experience than that stupid motherfucker will ever understand. FUCK that shit about him not having time to set up. There was FUCK ALL NOTHING going on at main stage between midnight and three. Every other professional musician got their shit set up in the hour between sets, and Kanye took 5. Fuck. That. When he finally went on the birds were singing and the sun was beckoning, and I was in my tent trying hard to sleep through the buzzing in my head, after having fighting with my girlfriend when we both should have been sound asleep. I got maybe 3 hours of shut eye before the sun woke me up. FUCK KANYE WEST and fuck anyone jackass who likes him and his fucking bullshit non-performances.

yeah kanye and spearhead both can eat a bowl of dick. like that? also jack(off)johnsons and metallica should get a portion

    • LAUGHINMYASSOFF  |   Posted on Jun 18th, 2008 0

A bowl of dicks? Would that be something like Rice crispy dicks, or maybe surgar frosted dicks? Oh I know… Sugar frosted mini dicks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

some of my favorite entertainers are black HAHAHAHA ,WE! meaning us WHITES don’t like kanye not because he’s black but beacuse he’s an ARROGANT LITTLE prick, that’s a quality in a human nobody likes no matter what color! SAY YOUR SOORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  80. Monty  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

What is with all you racist bastards!! Bonnaroo is for everyone, not just hippie white kids, and if you were there this year, which I’m sure most of you pussy fuckers weren’t because you couldn’t leave your computer, there weren’t even that many hippies. ALSO for all you kids saying “why was Kanya, a black hip hop guy even at bonnaroo?” Bonnaroo has always had fucking hip hop acts every year, since the fucking first year, and it will always have many hip hop acts, so stop bitching about that. I’m glad they got a big hip hop artist finally, instead of the underground stuff, which is still really good. You guys need to stop bitchin, his show was amazing!!

  81. Ryan  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

I waited in the line for the pit for 2 hours and was one of the last ten they let in and then had to wait til 4:30 for him to go on…and then he only played for an hour which is really fucking short…but thats not even what was bad..what was bad was that he didnt even say anything he wasnt “supposed” to not even good night thanks for seeing me or nothing..he lost a lot of fans out there…not me personally cuz his arrogance keeps me listening, but a lot of other people were mad..they had a sign at the ferris wheel for a while that said ferris wheel rides longer than kanyes set….Lupe Killed Kanyes show too

  82. Bullrogg  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

I had a burrito for lunch today.

  83. Old Man Rock  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

I’m not a racist but how stereotypical of any “rapper” (old man lingo) to be so late to the stage. That is “old school”! I once waited 3 hours to see Run DMC; that’s a long time between bands! Excitement, anticipation and and momentum do not continue to build over the course of 3 hours! Kanye should have had some naked hairy dudes on stage with him to appease the hippies. And me.

  84. Carl  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

I don’t understand how Kanye went from being so amazing onstage at Lollapalooza a couple years ago to being so bad at Bonnaroo. The last time I saw him he had a backing band, A-Trak, backup singers, and brought up Lupe Fiasco and Twista. He also had a whole decked out string section.

At Bonnaroo once he did get on stage it was just him talking to his lame recording. The whole thing was like some retarded overproduced Backstreet Boys show. Sorry Kanye, you are not interesting or talented enough to be on stage alone.

Furthermore, was Bonnaroo not a big enough event for him to take seriously and show up on time??!! What the fuck?

  85. MaximumBob  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

If he pulls that shit at this years Lolla, people will just go over to NIN and not come back.

  86. Steve Brule  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

Kanye West is a talentless jerk. If he had a drop of talent he would not need such an elaborate stage setup to wow the crowd. He is a phony and for those of you who are kanye fans 4 life, you are the perfect example of what is wrong with the mainstream music industry. He sucks and if you like him then you probably suck as well.

  87. Hawk Blaze  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

I doubt anyone will get to reading this far down the page but I too was sucked into going over to the big Kanye event because of some chicks I met. Obviously big mistake–I personally felt that he intentionally meant to kept us waiting. I could visualize him kickin’ back with a groupie or twelve talking a bunch of shit about Bonnaroo and it’s hippie fans…So I left. Thats what everyone should have done but since they stayed to see the supper dupper glow in the dark show I too say fuck you Con-ye. I brought a thousand glow sticks to the Pearl Jam show and guess what? That was as good of a light as we were going to get.

  88. irene  |   Posted on Jun 17th, 2008 0

Whoa, there are some serious angry management issues on display here.
You would think Kanye had ruined some of you peoples’ lives by performing late.
I can understand being annoyed he took a long time, but wow.

  89. I also had the unfortunate experience of wasting some time on this con man Kanye. Though rather than waste all night I finally left after waiting a full hour. I do have limitations on patience, even at Bonnaroo. I kept visualizing that dude kicking back in the VIP area with anywhere from 6-12 groupies giving him all the falsity he needs. I could picture him laughing at all us for waiting there and since I had taken a bunch of schrooms and E I was pretty convinced it was true! We all should have given our time to groups that really love to perform. I can’t believe I missed Ghostland O., I heard it was truly great. Phil Lesh & friend got cut off early–what a travesty…Any case, Pearl Jam made up for all the fakers out there what can’t jam and I loved every minute of Bonnaroo…………..Except for you all know who…….&……Metallica sucks too!!!!!!!!!

  90. wow, people take the internet FAR too seriously :)
I think what Kanye did was absolutely wrong. I am not attacking his music, but the fact that he made fans wait for 2 hrs and not even apologized or mention it at least once in his show? That shows the huge dis connectivity he has with “normal” people, since he claims himself as king of…the world, of something.

  91. So we’re ignoring the fact that Kanye is a genius right? That he, you know, impacted and changed an entire genre to fit around him in about three years time? We’re ignoring that we all make mistakes? We’re ignoring that Kanye’s music is made to uplift the downtrodden and is inspirational to million of people? We’re ignoring that we’ve never been in Kanye’s shoes, we weren’t there backstage and that anyone with any common fucking sense would understand that for a show to be delayed for hours there would have to be serious things happening?

Because I saw the Glow in the Dark show here in Chicago. Might have been the best concert I’ve ever been to, outside of Radiohead or Girl Talk. Truly groundbreaking in almost every facet. And it was clearly very intricately set up.

But what- all the people hating Kanye here are proposing that what? Kanye just delayed the show because he felt like it? It was just the thing to do? Because that’s bullshit and you know it. The only times Kanye has been a asshole has been when he’s been fighting FOR his art. He’s been defending Late Registration, he’s been defending his video for Touch the Sky, etc.. This is the opposite of that, the delaying of a show casts a negative shadow over his art, PERIOD. So Kanye would never willingly do something that inarguably would damage the effect of his art.

But instead of giving the man the benefit of the doubt, everyone here would rather hurl shit and say the most disrespectful and hurtful things possible about someone as if they were the worst serial killer in the world.

    Chill the fuck out.

Jesus Christ, internet. As if you’re so much better, as if you’re some benevolent, kind soul. And yet here you are, being unbelivably vile and vindictive and unforgiving- because what? Someone got angry over a MTV Award? Because someone wrote into some magazines defending their music? That’s a cause for someone to just be the biggest fucking asshole in the world despite their other achievements.

Get over YOURselves. It’s incredibly easy to preach hate, and just as hard to try to understand and sympathize with people. If you want to prove you’re such a great person, and so much better than this shithead Kanye, maybe you should understand that the things you’re so quick to judge this man over are ultimately trivial. Because I guarantee that Mike Myers’ embarassment or Justice’s embarassment or some Entertainment Weekly writer’s embarassment, or some indie kids waiting for some hours is absolutely nothing compared to the life-changing potential of a Kanye West record.

Trust me. I go to a school in the inner city of Chicago. I see the way kids’ eyes light up when We Don’t Care comes on. I see the vindiction when someone is singing the words to The Good Life and believing with all their heart that, yes, they can get out of this urban shithole and elevate to something greater and more positive.

So don’t pretend like this man can’t do any good. I’m not saying he’s perfect. But if you’re pretending like he can’t do any good and is just always in the wrong, then you don’t know shit- point blank.

Next to Barack Obama, no one can galvanize and inspire these youths like Kanye can.

And that is an amazing thing. Fuck a late concert set or an MTV Award.

  92. Oh, I forgot to mention that Kanye was on time for his show when I saw him. In fact, this is the first time Kanye has had chronic lateness publicized like this. But people who already hate him, are acting like this is so obviously characteristic of him- when it’s clearly not.

Whatever. People are going to make up their own shit to make themselves feel better and justify their hate- no matter how unsupported or outright false. Ugh.

The first time he had EVER been late? Are you so far up his ass that you know this to be true?

      • I said it was the first time ‘Ye had such a chronic lateness that was publicized like this. So as far as I, or anyone else, knows this could be a one time thing.

But people want to act like that just because Kanye is an asshole about his awards that that somehow automatically extends to him starting late for a show. He must just be an all around terrible person! I heard Kanye smeared shit on the face of an autistic baby because it wasn’t singing loud enough to Golddigger.

And for the people saying Kanye was shit in his performance, it had to be circumstances. Because every single person I’ve talked to that went to Glow in the Dark, excluding the disgruntled Bonnarooers, was blown away by it.

Kanye no-talent West? You have to be fucking kidding me. Classic going overboard. So because he has an ego, suddenly he has no talent. Like he didn’t make Roses. Like he didn’t produce H to the Izzo. Like Through the Wire isn’t an instant classic.

Anything is possible. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLEEEEEEEE

  94. tom  |   Posted on Jun 18th, 2008 0

Most of you people responding weren’t even at bonnaroo, so you have know right to post. I am from the south side of chicago and am a casual fan of kanye’s. Didn’t stay up late enough to catch his set, and after the bullshit he pulled I’m glad I didn’t. To the guy posting about his dead mother, get over it. My father passed away from lung cancer recently and he was my best friend on this planet. Guess what I did the day after we buried him?? I woke up the next day and went to work, On time I might add. I love how when a celebrity loses a family member we are all supposed 2 give a shit. Did kanye show up to any of your loved one’s funerals recently, you know since you met him once and are such close personal friends that your vouching for his charachter. If he was emotional he should have done what any truly great performer like Eddie Vedder did. He Used it in his performance, the anger and frustration flowed through their set without taking it over. To all of you playing the race card and talking about how rough k west had it and how uplifting his lyrics are to inner city kids, consider that I am from the south side of chicago and have been surrounded by housing projects and ghetto’s all my life. I have never been moved when hearing him rap about working at the Gap. He grew up in the suburbs and worked at the gap not exactly thuggish if you ask me. Bone thugs is far more uplifting at least their from a shit area in cleveland. I believe he is very talented, don’t get me wrong. I feel alot of good can come from his and many other rappers and hip hop artist, it just doesn’t ever seem to happen. Why are the marcy projects still standing when Jay-Z is a multi-millionaire. Not to many of these artist seem to be into giving back and making better the areas they came from. That would be truly uplifting. Furthermore I want to know how Pearl Jam a 5 person band could have all their shit set up after Jack Johnson was done clearing out in 45 min.. Yet Black Gallagher, I Mean Kanye not have all his bullshit props and light set up for over 3 hours. Common courtesy should have told him to acknowledge the fact that he was starting 2 hrs. late. Maybe if mommy was still here she could have taught him a valuable lesson after this whole fiasco, as it is I think we’re stuck listening to the arrogant midget for a few more years. Until he fades off into that same place that sisqo and the thong song faded into. Next big mistake alot of you are making is calling kanye a musician. I have never seen him play an instrument so as far as I am concerned he is an artist which I am using the term artist loosely here. All in all I had a great bonnaroo experience was great but I guess thats because I wasn’t relying on Kanye for the entertainment. The Living Legends that were there such as B.B King, Willie Nelson, and Pearl Jam were unbelievable. O A R and Death Cab and my morning jacket put on good shows. Jack Johnson was a pleasent surperise. Zach Galifianakis and louis C.K. were funny as hell. Widespread were well worth sticking around later sunday night for. To the rest of you bitching about Kanye that actually waited for his show you have a legitimate reason to be pissed but you should be equally as pissed at yourselves for waiting around for that long for that ego-maniac.

kanye sucks. i can’t believe i waited up for that shit. it felt so good to hear the “kanye sucks” chants and watching the sea of people leave halfway through his set. the arrogant prick didn’t deserve a spot at the best music festival ever.

  97. Jeannie  |   Posted on Jun 18th, 2008 0

One of the biggest reasons this so called musician was late was because he didnt have the FOOD waiting on him that he wanted. What a punk ass piece of shit. Whining about what food he has there to stuff his ugly face with , when we have people all over the world starving and would gladly eat anything offered to them.
As for his Mother passing, God bless her, but stop making excusses for a twit that thinks he is BIGGER then life itself. This is just another so called ricH *STAR* pushing his way around because he knows dumb ass people will wait on him hand and foot. Kanye needs to pull his head out of his ass, get back to the real life. I say BOYCOT THE FLAKE. Amen to Tom, you are right on track.

I thought it went great. There was no way I was going to miss Ghostland Observatorys set that went from 2:30 to 4:15am. So when we were leaving centeroo and saw Kayne had not even played I was more than willing to watch as the substances I injested were still working.
